Horrifying experience taking Intro to American Education with her. One of the worst classes I have ever taken at Smith. Lectures were dreadfully long, boring, and uninformative. Unfriendly toward international students. Got nothing out of this class. Unclear expectations and grading is too tough for an intro level class. Don't waste your time.

I really like Mule! She's very sweet and her commentary on some of the ridiculous things going on in American education is so funny. Her expectations are realistic and it's easy to get engaged in the material.

Professor Mule gives vague instructions, often just verbally, for assignments and papers but then uses a very specific rubric for grading. And, she actually lost the grade for my final paper after giving it back to me, and only notified me in the middle of Winter Break. Also, you lose a grade for each absence (A to A-): absolutely ridiculous.

Overall it became a blow-off class for me. Class discussions fell pretty flat. She assigned a ton of reading. I'm not really sure how she graded. I had a different opinion than her and she graded me lower. Basically you have to have the same opinions as her in your papers. I wish I didn't waste my time taking that class.

I wish she had done something to make people do the readings--it was clear that the class had not read the material, or had very little to say on the matter. When the class got on, discussions and debates were good, but infrequent. I honestly didn't deserve half the marks she gave me, she was generous with her grading. She's very kind and sweet.

Worst prof I've had at Smith, maybe one of the worst in my life. It felt like I was in a middle school class instead of at one of the best liberal arts schools in the country. Her "lectures" consist of slideshows with maps & facts, her "guided discussions" are her asking fact-based questions from the reading. I DON'T RECOMMEND THIS CLASS!

I found the readings (which are heavy) to be engaging/interesting. HOWEVER, she very clearly conducts the class to guide the students to her own opinion. Most classes consisted of her asking us "what we thought was interesting" and then her shooting down those with different opinions, leading to a 30+ class to stop participating. Do not recommend.

I have only great things to say about Lucy Mule. She's extremely nice, helpful, and she is one of few professors who understands life from a student's point of view. There was never a dull moment in her class. Discussions were always interesting, and the assignments were fun!
