Dr. D is a very kind professor and understanding. However the lectures were dull. He would have a script that he would read off of which was very hard to write notes. He had exams every two weeks that were a mix of straightforward questions and tricky wording. There are small assignments to boost your grade. Material wise it was pretty interesting.

Easiest chemistry class ever. One midterm for the entire quarter. Easy assignments in between, very little time commitment required to pass this class.

Took him for CHEM151 and thought CHEM118 would be an easy A as well but you definitely need to put in more effort for this class. Theres a test every three lectures and is cumulative throughout the quarter. Test material came from huge test bank so you were either lucky or not to get easy/hard questions.

Super easy class. One midterm and thats it. Group projects and very very small assignments contributed to the other portion of the grading. Can be vague sometimes but the class really isn't difficult at all

Provost Dan is a great guy who cares for his students. The FYE course itself wasn't useful to me but I've met great people through it and Dan is one of them.

He's really easy, 80% is an A. His midterms are similar to his past exams which he puts online. however, his quizzes are difficult.

awesome class! He's really easy and he purposely puts questions like "which version test are you taking? A? B? C? D?" on the exams. He really cares about how you do in his class. I would DEFINITELY recommend this class to all!

I didn't like this class. Not that it was very hard, but Dr. Dan's lecture style didn't work for me at ALL. I learned it all from the book. Quizzes are harder than (& I still can't believe I had to memorize song lyrics for) exams. The class is easier cause of his big curve not cause the material is easy. But he's probably the best choice for CHEM11

My favorite professor ever. He's such a likable guy and makes you want to go to class. However, his lectures are sometimes hard to understand although it may be just that I needed to read the material first.

His goal was for his students to comfortably understand the world of basic chemistry asdn after taking his class, I do understand VERY clearly and I am able to do problems that I couldn't do when I was in high school. His 'daily specials' are GREAT. It is mostly the main reason why I go to class. The class seems easy at first, but it gets harder.

Made chem fun to learn! Realizes that people probably dislike chem (like I do!) so he makes it lively! Attend lecture, go to section for quizzes, and do the homework, and you should do fine. If you try, you'll get an A. If you don't, you'll get a disappointing B (scale is 80% A). Demos and Specials show up on tests and recycles old exam questions!

If you go to class, take notes, and spend some time reading the textbook over the weekend, you will get an A. A third of the midterm is drawn from old midterms (and likewise for the final). There's one homework assignment per week that doesn't take too long. He grades on a point system and 80% is an A. Donoghue is the best!! TAKE HIM!!!!!

Class is easy if you study and do the homework and sample midterms. Attend his class for his "today's specials" cos it will come out in the midterms. He is a funny engaging prof.! i love how he does experiments in front of the class. Highly recommended!

pretty funny guy. watch out for his daily specials because they end up on the quizzes and exams. this class is a pretty easy A, but don't slack off too much! i made that mistake and got a B, even though the curve is an 80% and higher is an A.

Prof. Donoghue is the best professor at UCSD. He's entertaining and really shows a passion for the subject and his students. He has daily specials where he plays movies, music and does demos that have to do with chem topics. This class is an easy A if you go to class and do the work.
