You know how teachers always say there are no dumb questions? Well Royer will tell you - in so many words - your question is dumber than dumb, and you are the dumbest. Really, if I wanted to be bullied, I'd just go back to elementary school.

I really liked Royer! He's very funny, yet a little dry so he can come off as a little rude. His teaching style involves showing you the basics and allowing you to discover the deeper techniques. He's very quick to look at your work notice whether or not you are listening to new concepts, so make sure to pay attention.

A product of a different age, which can make him a tad inaccessible. Despite teaching a Document Design course, he's unfamiliar with computer techniques (how to download a pic from google, etc). His grading is abstract- with no rubric and few comments, and refuses to use Blackboard

Royer is hands-down the worst professor I've ever had. He mocked students in class, he was really unprofessional when asked questions, disregarded his own syllabus (there were no rubrics for anything), he plagiarized another professor in the department, he made students workshop his own writing for him, and he doesn't actually TEACH anything.

I would never recommend Royer. He is disrespectful, and unprofessional and is the type of teacher that will make you feel thoughtless for asking questions. His directions are dreadfully unclear. He tries to be funny but just outright insults students. Unsympathetic to any missed classed. He grades based on what he likes, not what is assigned.

Literally the worst. He's very sarcastic in a way that is demeaning to students. If you don't want to be singled out and openly insulted, do not take this class. He also has this ridiculous attendance policy. Miss a class, your grade goes down by a full letter. Miss 2 classes, you lose 5 more points on your final grade. If you get sick, it's over.

Professor Royer is dope. He is the most real professor I have had at GVSU, he is hilarious and witty to no end. If you can take him, take his classes. It is worth your while!!!!!

One of the only classes I look forward to coming to in my week. He makes class fun and is able to make seemingly uninteresting and dry subjects enjoyable.

Great professor. I have taken his classes twice now. Very helpful and respectful. Conversational with student, so he is not intimidating. Projects are often open-ended, so you can work on something you're passionate about.

The course was challenging and very engaging. He was a fair grader and only justifiably harsh if you were clearly lazy. I really liked his sense of humour. He was always willing to help if I came with questions. I learnt a lot from Mr. Royer and I'm glad that I took this class. with him.

Dan is a great professor, and knows his stuff. His humor is not everyone's style but I thought he was amusing. I've had him for several special course offerings and he loves those. He's been really supportive of my work, and has been like a friend in some senses. If you can take blunt criticism, you'll get a lot out of his teaching.

He talks a lot, and I'm still not entirely clear why he gave us a website if it's just to showcase our work in this class. I wish he gave the class site aspect of the class a bit more focus and purpose to relate back to the class being about generating internet content and less about the html, web building aspect, which is out of the class's scope.

Likes to give you websites to figure out how to write instead of actually teaching it to you. He isn't clear on exactly what he wants and then when you turn something in he likes to rip it apart. He's very blunt to the point of being rude (but he thinks he's funny) so you don't feel comfortable at all in class of asking questions. HORRIBLE PROF

I'm glad that I got a passing grade... but I know my writing is worth more than a B+. He never gave us any grades while class was in session... so we never actually knew how we were doing and whether we needed to improve or not. He focuses far too much on Indesign, which isn't right because it is a WRITING class not a design course.

Awesome class and atmosphere. Seems like the main point of the class is to learn InDesign (which is cool, but not expected). BUT MAKE SURE YOU SHOW UP TO EVERY CLASS!! My daughter got headlice so I was gone, and I totally had to kiss butt to keep my status in the class.
