Comment:
Ive taken both his theatre and English courses, from what I gather he is extremely unapproachable in non-class hours. I needed his signature for the Shakespeare course and he told me to basically bug off and the class was full. Thankfully I didnt take his advice and went to the secretaries at the 4th floor MCKN ENG office and they squeezed me in.

He talks in circles, and it's hard to understand the main point of everything he says. His assignments have no guidelines, or criteria, which can lead to unnecessary confusion. Needs to work on being straight forward.

You get the impression that he's not listening to a single thing any student is saying, but trying to fake it by nodding way too often....which makes him look like an idiot sometimes. His comments on papers are nasty, critical over random things. He's not paying attention reading students' work, either. Waste of time.

I do recommend him for anyone who is used to getting good grades. As another person said, his comments on your homework aren't too helpful, and he never smiles or laughs unless it's at himself. Still, he's brilliant, his assignments are open-ended, and he's good at choosing texts to focus on.

Comment:
Dr. Fortier is an excellent lecturer--very funny and (as he likes to say) "engaging." He's not particularly warm outside of class, though, and, although I did well in his course, I did not find his comments on my work to be particularly helpful (sometimes they even bordered on rude). I'm not dying to take another course with him.

He isn't afraid to correct people when they make stupid comments, which is refreshing. I thought his assignments were fine and all of his views well-justified.
