Super boring Professor, do not recommend. Very hard to stay focused during a 2.5 hour MEDITATION lecture.

Not a course that you can just breeze through. A lot of reading and writing and she is really passionate about this topic so she'll actually read your papers. She's really nice and understanding but only if you actually try, but it's a lot of work for sure.

Gipson is so caring. She is a very honest person. However she is a weird mix; she is very fumbling in her speech. Some lectures all I could do was sit through and laugh with how bad her clarity is. Still, she has teaching awards, and in her office is very helpful. Very fair grader and decent tests compared to other professors.

Comment:
Prof Gipson is an extremely nice professor and she really cares that her students learn. Sometimes though, it can be hard for her to answer students questions or rephrase things if students don't understand. Overall I liked her, but my biggest complaint was that we were always extremely rushed right before each test to learn all of the material.

Comment:
Gipson is a concept-based professor and uses a weird 'true/false' system in her exams. Class averages were always below a passing grade and she didn't seem to mind that barely anyone understood her class. Avoid Avoid Avoid. I have to retake this course because of her poor teaching skills, and I even had a tutor.

Prof Gipson is not meant to be teaching this class. She is so unclear about what she wants, and always contradicts her students. Lots of reading, and quizzes over the readings. She is someone I would NOT recommend.

She was a friendly lady but was super unclear about grading and speaking your mind about topics was not an option.

Class was not run very well. Disorganized at times and a really inconvenient time frame for the students. I wouldn't recommend taking Human Body in Motion unless you really really really like to research and read studies from science journals.

While she is nice, her teaching methods are not very practical when comparing to her exams. She emphasizes on concepts (50% of exams) but hardly ever does mathmatical examples for you. READ THE BOOK! Do all the synthesis problems and then some. She doesnt know how to clarify most things other than the way she explains them in class.

She definitely could explain things better. I learn more from the book. The practice exams are fairly similar to the exams. Don't forget to do the 2-week quizzes. She's a stickler for concepts, so make sure you understand the big picture rather than memorizing formulas. Class isn't impossible.

I would not reccomend Karen Gipson. She is not used to teaching the lower level physics classes and it shows. Her lectures are not clear or helpful. If part of my grade wasnt based on attendance I wouldn't show up. If you want to get a decent grade in the class make sure you do the synthesis problems from the book.

Physics is a difficult class so you should not expect a prof to just hand out A's. That being said Gipson really wants her students to do well and is more than willing to go over things again. Her exams do make you apply the material in a way that integrates many topics but that's what physics is. If you put in the work a good grade is possible.

If you want to get an A in her class, this is what I would recommend you do. Read every chapter from the book, do every practice poblem in the book, and go to professor Vallery's office hours and ask him to explain things to you. If you do not want to do that, and still get an A I would suggest you find another professor.

I did more writing in this class then I did in my other 4 (including an SWS) combined, but it's mostly due to it being a theme class. Beyond that, this class is actually fairly interesting and she's a good teacher. Exams are fair but probably impossible to ace. The rest of the points come from journal entries and a paper + presentation.

LIke some one else said "i would invite you" to take another class. KG was very unprofessional telling us it was our fault that we couldnt read her notes and its our fault we didnt write labs exactly how she wanted them (even though she gave no specifications in the first place)... BOO to Karen Gipson

Avoid this woman...she is not ment to be a teacher....she can't relate to students and she is difficult and is very contradictory...if you have to take lib 100 don't make my mistake take someone else if you value the money you are spending on the class

She doesn't own a TV! That should explain a lot. She grades kinda tough until you figure out exactly what she wants.
