Comment:
Shea is a good professor that leads exciting class discussions on US government and politics. The textbooks used in GO111 were written by him which is a little odd. He tends to lean left which is quite evident in his lectures.

I took several courses with Professor Shea. He's hilarious and intellectual at the same time. One of my favorites. People who do not like him aren't hard workers.

A great and very engaging course. The exams are only difficult if you don't take the time to read them. Papers are also very well structured and Prof. Shea is helpful in providing brief feedback. See in person over emails for help.

He is very helful although a little too excitable sometimes. He has a tendancy to get a tad off-topic, but that doesnt mean you won't learn anything. I learned a lot in his classes and my writing improved because he challenges you to do more. On top of all his work in the classroom he is a good resource to talk about extracurriculars and grad work.

One of the most knowledgeable professors in the department. Those who dislike him tend to recieve poor grades, and those who recieve poor grades are unwilling to work hard in his class.

If you are interested in going into campaign work, this is the professor for you. While he is cocky and is playing raquetball while his office door is open, he does know his stuff. Thinks more about his books and his CPP fellows than about students and others that work with him

Comment:
Dan knows the American political system and its inner workings well and he presents it in an easily digestable way. That being said, he is egotisical, he is more concerned with the CPP than the students in his classes and he is a nightmare as a comp. advisor.

Great class and great professor. A little arrogant at times, but he really does know his stuff. Readings are a bit repetitive, but the exams are directly from them. If you're interested in American government, I'd highly recommend him.

Only recommend to those interested in the topic. He is truly a great professor. While he seems arrogant, he honestly is an expert on his upper division classes and has had experience in the field as a political consultant. talk to him if pursuing campaign politics/ masters in polsc. He IS very busy but is very helfpul. Offer to help with the CPP.

he gives the air of wanting to help but never seems to be around. his dedication lies with his research not students. left multiple voicemails for him and he never responded. plays favorites and tends to be much more critical than constructive when asked for paper feedback. the imparted knowledge is not worth the ridicule.

I've definitely warmed to this professor. He really does lay out his expectations, and though he is a busy guy, he really does attempt to make time for his students. He may seem arrogant, but in my opinion, he's not. He's confident, and for good reason -- he's becoming a nationally-known scholar.
