You could tell that he really enjoyed what he was teaching and that made the lectures fun. He goes off on some tangents but they're usually an exciting story that you wouldn't find in the textbook. Don't put off the papers, and go to the TAs for help. Tests were open note, but that was Covid times so...

He wouldn't be my first choice but he wouldn't be my last. Weekly, multiple choice quizzes, midterm, final, and one five page paper. Easy to get a B but hard to get an A.

Professor Borg was a great professor. If you attend lectures, pay attention during the discussion section, ask him for help or feedback. You will do well in this class. Your grade is based on the midterm, final, and 5-page essay. I did not do the best on the midterm but I brought my grade up through the 5-page essay and final.

Borg is a bit of a wild card, but he knows everything there is to know and really made this class interesting. The discussion sessions with the TA will getcha if you don't participate, but his lectures are so engaging and he's a funny guy. Tough class, 4 credits, but worth it. Nothing you didn't learn in APUSH

Dr. Borg is a really great professor, and he cares about the success of his students, but he definitely is a tough grader, and will make you read chapter after chapter. I would say for a gen-ed, this class was too hard, but overall, he is a great guy.

Class is pretty straightforward and he is a nice guy. Midterm and final are right from lecture, so go to those. Quizzes are online and from the textbook, you can figure out the rest. His 5-page paper is really confusing though probably the worst part of the class, but again its fine overall.

Kevin Borg is a really interesting guy that makes History somewhat fun. If you don't mind a liberal bias, I would take him. He does expect you to read A LOT. You will be expected to read for online quizzes and the discussion section. Also, Borg makes weird noises during lectures, so if that's distracting for you, I would take someone else.

Comment:
Dr. Borg is clearly passionate about HIST. The class is super lecture heavy, but discussion was interesting. You're graded by discussion participation, weekly online quizzes, a midterm, a paper, and a final (all 20%). Midterm and final are written exams, and he's a pretty harsh grader. Overall the class is about what I expected for a HIST gen ed.

Comment:
Borg was harsh when you met him in office hours and unwilling to listen when you explained why you thought he was wrong. If you pay attention to his political views and write in accordance with them you'll do better, even if it's not what you think. Quizzes are hard. Ask him about your thesis before you write it. Midterm and final were graded harsh

Open book quizzes due every week that truly are impossible unless you have an online textbook or a group of people to work with. If you aren't good at history I would not recommend this course, as he expects you to have a very good knowledge of the lecture material on exams. Comprised of 14 quizzes, one 5 page paper, mid term and final were essays.

Be sure to go to class and actually read. Be ready to speak about readings and go to his office hours to keep tabs on your work. Be open to new things. I ended up getting a C on my essay in the class but still ended with an A- in the class. Kevin is real and tells it like it is.

Dr. Borg was actually very degrading and harsh. I wouldn't recommend. He did give feedback on papers (which are your exams) but he will rip apart your whole essay. You have an online quiz every week to make sure you are reading. He really isn't that great! I would pick another professor who doesn't throw you down in the slumps like he did to me.

Long, hard to understand readings. 2 exam essays along with a very unclear research essay and even more unclear public facing project. If you're a quiet student he will make you feel bad for not participating. Got graded down on my research paper for not including a section that was not a part of my topic. unclear grading.

Quizzes every week and the discussion helps but the grading on papers is outrageous. 30% of the class failed the midterm and he said he wasn't afraid to lower grades more if you brought him questions and he saw something new he missed. Very unreasonable level of expected knowledge and historical writing skills for a gened.

One of my favorite history classes Ive taken, and I ended up taking it just because it fit my schedule. Really tough concepts and LOTS of reading, but all very enjoyable texts. Class is basically a book club for history nerds. A dream come true.

Online quizzes every week, but it's always open note. You have 3 papers, and they're all very tough. Borg is very funny and he loves what he teaches, one of the most knowledgable professors.

Difficult class but office hours help so much I cannot emphasize this enough. Weekly quizzes on the readings but as long as you make a table of contents for each chapter, you won't have to read. If you go to class, take good notes, and take your paper and exam question outlines to either Borg or the TA in their office hours, you will get an A.

2 excused absences. Interesting readings for every class. Class is discussion based. Participation is important- big part of your grade. He will help you if you ask for it. Pretty easy grader as long as you seem to have basic knowledge. Great upper level history professor. He's funny which makes class more fun. I wish I could take him again!

Dr. Borg was a great professor, but his weekly quizzes became a lot and really affect your grade in the end. Both the mid term and final are essay questions that you must prepare and memorize in advance, but if you really study this class is not too hard.
