EN Detective Novel, most boring, expensive and ridiculous course you'll ever take... unless you like English detective novels.

The class is incredibly boring and definately not as interesting as it may seem from the course description. Her assignments have hardly anything to do with the course materials. Hard and unrealistic marker and she probabaly thinks that everyone in her class is fom 3rd or 4th year. Tutorials are also the most boring thing ever!!

Comment:
Assigned readings were heavy and unrelated! All her assignments were based on grammar rather than "The English Detective Novel". Her grading is somewhere in the middle; her lectures are okay, but her tutorials are boring. Other than the final exam, there is really no need for the readings. This course is not as interesting as it sounds.

I received a good mark in her class only after being tortured throughout the year. She's a hard marker. Avoid taking the class if she's your T.A., it'll save you some stress.

her breath ALWAYS smells like coffee. She's a nice lady who marks easy and gives grade school like exams. For those reasons she is good. The lectures however cause you to need as much coffee as her

One of the WORST profs I've had at York. Rude, unapproachable, and plays favorites. I don't know where all the positive ratings are coming from...perhaps you guys haven't had her as a T.A.

Comment:
IF YOU GET HER AS A TA, SWITCH. She dissects every word and every sentence you write. If you ask her for help, she makes suggestions that you apply, but when you get your paper back, even the corrections she has made will be cut up. In lecture she is clear, and it is obvious that she is knowledgable, but don't let her sweet demeanor fool you.

Happy prof, definitely knows her material, a lot of background info, would have been better to be in her tutorial. Didn't go too far in depth about ideas. Very kind woman.

Her lectures are extremely boring. She gives way too much historical bkg about a novel&author, and not enough in-depth analysis that you would expect in an English class.Only four books to buy, and she photocopies the rest of the readings.Overall, she's a decent prof,u just need caffeine in her class.

I have one word to describe this class thus far...half way through it...and its meh. This class for me isnt anything special. Maybe if we did more interesting novels and less poetry maybe my opinion will change.
