He's a perfectly nice guy and a fair grader but he is so incredibly boring. He talks slow and monotone and he doesn't involve the class in discussions. I would compare his class to watching grass grow, but at least grass has some life in it.

Professor Arkush is an extremely knowledgeable and understanding instructor. He does not use slides during his lectures so he is a little hard to follow, but we only had two exams for which he provided study guides. He assigned short readings but he goes over them in class. He can be a little boring but put in the work and you'll get a good grade.

Professor Arkush is extremely passionate about his field and teaching students. However, Anti-Semitism in America is a very intensive class. There are a lot of assigned readings which in combination with his lectures is the basis for exams. They can be lengthy and difficult to understand.

Prof Arkush is a very kind man. He is very knowledgeable and is passionate in what he teaches. Hes funny and he doesnt like it when students use their laptops/phones when hes talking. Overall, his lectures are really dreading and dry. 2 5-pages papers (one of them is a final) and one 10 page paper. He helps you! Ill always remember Prof Arkush.

Quality professor right here. Although his lectures are fairly dry, Professor Arkush knows what he is talking about and makes sure to expand on the important topics for tests. Midterm and Final were hella easy as long as you kept up with the readings and paper was very open-ended, so you could take it any way you want to. Highly recommend.

hes a really good guy but his class is pretty boing so it can be rough. he's very knowlegable and its clear he really cares about the subject. he goes pretty in depth during class so I really recommend taking good notes. if you pay attention in class and do take notes the tests are no problem.

Super knowledgeable. Strict on no cell-phone policy and calls students out for it. Attendance mandatory. He speaks throughout the entire lecture period. Tests are super fair because he gives you a study sheet prior to the test. Grade is depended on midterm and final. Participation will probably give you a bit of a boost

In the beginning I was excited for this class. Already having a Jewish background, I couldn't imagine it being bad. I WAS WRONG! Don't get me wrong, Prof. Arkush is SUPER knowledgable, but I found his lectures to be very dry. He also doesn't use lecture slides, and can be very hard to follow. The final and midterm counted for 75% of our grade!

Extremely brilliant man. Wasn't overly interested in Judaic Studies before taking Modern Jewish History with Arkush, but after seeing him delve so deep into his decades of research to teach, it's impossible to not have a passion for the subject. Go to class for the lecture material and attendance. Plus, there's two papers, a midterm and a final.

From talking to him in office hours, I believe Arkush is a very knowledgeable, helpful and caring professor. However, the majority of my classmates were lazy, disinterested and rude. I think this affected his teaching. The lectures were a real struggle and the tests were very difficult (though graded kindly). The readings were extremely important.

I took rebirth of Israel with him. go to class and put in some effort. textbooks are pretty key, midterm and final are pretty easy i studied for them on wikepedia. make sure you take care of the paper though ask him to edit it once before handing it in and you should get an A.

Quite an interesting guy. Dry sense of humor. You have to pay attention to him to understand his humor. Very helpful in office hours. Go to class is going to make your life so much easier because you don't need to do all that reading.

Pure and simple. Arkush is a character. And we love him for it. He does not penalize students for disagreeing. Chairman Arkush is a pretty straight-forward guy. Do the readings or go to class. You'll do fine.
