Dickie's alright. He's very approachable, and pretty helpful and SO passionate about his job, and that's very admirable. He's not too organized though but all in all, he's a good dude. I'll give him that.

Completely unprofessional. He thinks telling stupid stories about Croatia are useful when really he's just wasting all of the class time he could be using to explain all the bs readings he assigns.

He's pretty unorganized! He prepared insanely long slides, which he never had enough time to go through. An insane amount of reading, although I never did any of it and was able to get an A. The tests had very specific questions - but you could find the answers out of the book, word for word. He's approachable.

He is really into what he teaches. Inconsistency. never get papers back before writing the next one. Way to much reading for 3 credit class. IF you do take this class and want to still have a life I suggest you go to class and section and take notes on what readings they talk about and then go back and read just the ones mentioned in class.

By far the worst teacher I have experienced at UMass. He gives way too much reading for a 100 level class, numerous papers and groups projects. Lectures are unbearable, but not mandatory. He is extremely opinionated and has completely turned me away from the field of anthropology. Not to mention it took the TA's two months to grade the papers.

Worst class I have ever taken! He's clearly passionate about the subject but he's so disorganized that it makes it impossible for anyone to follow what he is saying. Too many reading assignments for a gen ed and the TA's are useless and don't get anything graded until the last week of class. I would not reccomend this class to anybody!

****ie's a really nice guy who is clearly passionate about Anthropology, but when he rants about his research on Slovak I just can't bring myself to pay attention. Lectures aren't really mandatory, only 2 tests (midterm/final) and they're both online and you have the essays ahead of time to copy/paste into spark. You also write 3 papers.

very passionate and someimtes goofy, but he gives a ridiculous amount of reading per week and i dont think the tests are necessarily fair.. some of the questions are totally random and not fair at all...

****ie is a genuinely nice guy. He makes an effort to get class involved instead of just lecturing. Tells it how it is and is upfront about everything. He always offers help and asks for opinions on the class. Takes attendance. Discussions aren't terrible. Enjoyed the class. Easy grade.

the way he lectures i feel like he's talking down to us. we're not as stupid as he thinks. i've learned some vocab words but thats about it. he says stuff just to get a rise out of people. and hes not special just cuz his politics are a little left. who's isn't in MA?

Although Dickie teaches mostly at UMass, he instructed my intro. course at Smith College. He's a nice guy, but I have to say he is the worst professor I've ever had. He teaches down to his students, like he is instructing a junior high class. I didn't get anything out of the course-UNPROFESSIONAL

something about "dickie" is kinda sexy to me...it's probably his eccentric attitude and passion for his subject. he's just the kind of guy i'd like to go to a bar with and just drink exotic beer and observe and make fun of people.
