Comment:
His notes are not well prepared. He thought himself extremely smart. So he usually gives hard questions to students. Today, he embarrassed himself by stopping there for five mins in the mid of the lecture because he lost his logical thinking related to the notes. He published good stuff. But he's not a good lecturer.

Honestly, if you have to take chem164/261, take it with him. His notes are amazing, and hes pretty cool. He moves into the material at a good pace, so if you haven't heard of organic chem, you will still be fine. His exams though are challenging. They start off ok, but then the final is a real hammer. Keep up with lecture notes, and do all practice

Class was fairly easy to understand, explained mechanisms clearly and told you what was important for the exam if you went to the review sessions. Pretty good prof overall. Textbook not required but can help with concepts.

An outstanding professor. Explains concepts extremely well. "Practice exams" are not adequate preparation for his tests, so make sure to do all of the problems assigned from the textbook. Exams are difficult but fair if you know the material, and test understanding of concepts (rather than rote memorization) very well.

I have taken Organic Chem I previously and it seemed like I was trying to understand a course that was being taught in a foreign language. When I re-did it with Dr. Hall everything seemed so much more clear and a thousand times easier. He is a really great prof and a nice guy. Also he is really accomplished and has done a lot for someone so young.

Dr. Hall was probably the best prof ever. His notes were amazing, and he definitely knows his stuff and will help you to the best of his ability always. His quiz was simple if you look over his work handouts, the midterm was more difficult but still fair. Go to class, you'll understand it better.

While this is a subject for which I seem to have a strong intuitive grasp, I can tell that his teaching has been finely honed for those that do not have such a strong grasp of the subject (which I know has a reputation for being difficult). Good choice of prof from whom to take the class.
