Comment:
He's tough, but he is fascinating and is genuinely interested in the humanities. I took one class with him my freshman year, having had no previous interest in the humanities field, and ended up going back to take numerous other classes with him, because I enjoyed his classes and his teaching style so much.

He's a brilliant classicist, no question about it. If you ask him questions, he will answer them clearly and helpfully, always pointing you to many indispensable resources. When he doesn't know something he admits it and will then research it to learn about it. He's not easy, but if you have any interest in classes, take him.

Dr. Lateiner is nice, really helpful, and knows his stuff. As long as you try and actually do the work outside of class, you shouldn't have a problem and he'll be understanding when you miss class. But you definitely don't want to slack off if you've never taken Greek before.

If your goal is to LEARN then you need to take his classes. He knows his stuff, yet he's humble and admits it when he makes mistakes. He is not at all arrogant or mean. If you treat him with respect and treat his courses with respect ,then he will do the same for you. I am in a class with all Classics majors, minors, and its the best class ever!!

Rude, annoying, nitpicky, whiny. Not the best choice for 9 am, or any time.

Undergrad, like life, is all about experiences. You must take Lateiner! He's demanding, keen, fun, and slightly mad... open yet deep in intro courses, tough in Advanced courses, so be careful and be committed! Listen, speak up, show an active interest and he'll return the favour. Good luck with those papers, hehe!

Comment:
Donald chased me out of Latin quickly. I had aspirations of double majoring in Latin and a science, but his negativity toward this possibility (and his course in general) drove me to double major in a science and P&G. I picked Latin back up in graduate school, but it was too bad this man kept me from exploring it more in undergrad.

Interesting material, but boring discussions. Doesn't like underclassmen or nonmajors in his classes. Not fun to take unless you are one of his favorites.

Comment:
Very absent minded professor. It was hard to take notes in class as he kept jumping from one topic to another. He made myth, legend, and folklore rather boring and he focused on his personal interests of Greek and Latin folklore. I would have liked to have seen more diversity in the folklore studied.

Not a prof for most. Is very difficult and can come off as unapproachable. I've taken 5 courses with him and I've never had a problem with him. However, I would avoid him if you want an easy class or don't want to be confused often.

The WORST teach I've ever had! He's very unclear and MADE-UP words for his class that were not even in the dictionary! He is extremely unfair, and unless you are taking his class for your major he could care less about helping you!

He insisted that a use a source that wasn't pertinent to my paper. When I didn't, he gave me a poor grade. I was a senior honors student, and more than able to make such decisions on my own. I am now in graduate school and to this day that is the only 'C' I ever received for a term paper.
