Super nice professor and really cares about his students. Readings from the textbooks will not always be discussed but the information is on the tests. Be sure to show up because tests are lecture heavy. Good notes will go a long way!

Very sweet and passionate teacher. Goes a little fast in his lectures however, he wont test you on something not covered in lecture or in the book. READ!! Tip: record lectures on your phone in case you don't get to write something down. Some important content is just said and not on the powerpoint

This professor is a very positive and kind-hearted person! He is understanding if you have a conflict that conflicts with his class and reassures that you will pass his class. He gives a reflections worksheet on the different books on either both the Old or New Testament. Fair warning: comprehensive tests and lots of reading!

I recommend taking the New Testament, even if you're not a Christian, he teaches from a historical point of view and does not give it just from a christian perspective. I loved how passionate he was about the material, it made the class more enjoyable and he is such a sweet and caring professor! I'm thankful for all I've learned this semester

Gilman's a nice guy, but the only parts about this class that weren't a complete waste of time were the guest speakers (a holocaust survivor, a Buddhist priest, to name a few). Other than that, I didn't go to class much, put in the bare minimum effort and managed to get an A. Do yourself a favor and take something mroe interesting.

Excellent Professor. I took him for the New Testament and had a great time in his class. He's really easy if you study and know the material, he's not hard at all. Overall, I think I he tries to let his students learn about the New Testament, but I think that he's slanted to a scholar's views of the New Testament sometimes which is frustrating.

He's a really nice guy....but always uses the whole class time and Assigns an unreasonable amount of reading out of a book or books that are not at all interesting (except for Siddhartha). The 2hr 40min class, even just once a week, was dreadful- way to long to sit through for that class.

He is the nicest guy, always excited to be there. Lectures can get boring at times. If you plan to skip, do not take this class. He gives writing assignments at the beginning or end of almost every class which can hurt your grade if you miss too much class. Easy essays/presentation. A lot of the test comes from book and book website.

He's a really sweet guy, gives you like 1/4 of the answers for the tests, and is very reasonable. The class itself gets kind of boring, but he's pretty straight-forward.

Gillman's class is all about the book. But his tests are mad easy cuz he gives u half the answers and the rest is from an easy book. His class you can't help but fall asleep on but if you don't go and just read you'll get a definite B. I got an A because I went, but I slept half the time. I'd take it again.

The worst teacher I have had at SDSU, a dolt. I usually get A's + B's but I couldn't bring myself to attend this class. The teacher knows very little about the subject. If you ask a question he puts his hands together and says, "Hmm, very interesting, I don't know" I don't care if a prof has high expectations but they must know their subject.

I am a religious studies major and a straight A student. I love all my professors and respect their profession. All except for J. Gillman. The class was pretty easy, but it was the worst class ever. The lectures are boring (not even his... they're from the book's website), and he doesn't seem to know much more than the basics from the book.

enjoyed this class. Gillman is fair and easy. You'll need to keep an open mind. Class does not sugar coat the subject but tells it like it is.

IF YOU HAVE TO TAKE THIS CLASS TAKE SOMEONE ELSE PLEASE! I HAD TO DROP THIS COURSE BECAUSE OF THE LACK OF UNDERSTANDING THAT HE HAS FOR HIS STUDENTS. YES MOST OF THE WORK IS OUT OF THE BOOK. BUT, HE IS VERY BORING AND VERY DISRESPESTFUL OF STUDENTS. MAKE THEM FEEL AS IF THEY ARE STUPID UNLESS A STUDENTS.
