Comment:
I'm taking an asynchronized course, so we mostly communicate via e-mail (he is surprisingly quick to respond btw).He seems to care a lot about his students and the course material. He always reassures me that if I have questions I can come to him. Would highly recommend taking Don Quijote, even if you're not a fan of the prof, the book is worth it.

I really loved the class. As a whole, he studied 7 books., and went over each one for about 4 classes. The professor is so so nice, makes you laugh a lot in general . Something I love also: at beginning of each class, he would ask us if we had any comments or thoughts about the readings, which enabled us to share our opinions.

Prof. Magallon is one of the worst professors at McGill. He is certainly the worst professor in the Hispanic Studies department.

Comment:
This class was quite uninteresting, the professor was condescending and the lecture material was not analyzed deeply enough, anyone could have commented those texts. The grading criteria is unclear and is mostly based in favoritism. He is accessible outside of class but won't change his mind on what he thinks is right. A lot of group projects!

The class wasn't bad, but only take if you're really into literature. I had to take the class for my minor and it was very boring at times AND it was an 8.30 class. The prof is very friendly and accessible outside of class. He's a friendly grader so you should get a good grade in that class. Wouldn't recommend as an elective though.

There is no exam, no quizzes, one oral presentation that is extremely easy and in groups... I don't see why people are complaining. You would watch movies, write a small 1p paper of what you thought of each one, and discuss in class. This was my favorite elective. Only thing graded is participation and the final paper, which was super fun to write.

Didnt prepare one single class, never gave lectures, just made us discuss the movies and have a different group present each week. So no effort from him, didn't give clear instructions, rare feedback, and graded super strictly -even on participation! I didn't learn anything more than I would have by watching movies with friends and discussing them.

Despite seeing some interesting films, this course was a nightmare. The prof had no interest in the class and nothing of his own to say. A truly terrible course!

Worst class at McGill. Useless, the teacher gives you no feedback at all. Total disaster as a teacher.

This teacher is a good one but his Cinema class is a total disaster. I learned nothing in this class and the fact that he expects us to talk every 5 minutes, bothers me. Cinema class was a nightmare, students will only talk about sources they found on the Internet and it was boring all the time.

I'm really surprised that he's giving Spanish Cinema again because it was such a total waste of time -- boring lectures, aimless discussions, very little feedback, and the prof didn't seem to care. It's an easy A but not worth it.

This is by far the worst professor I've had at McGill. He is pretentious, talks down to students, and just likes to hear his own voice. I don't care how easy it is to get a high mark from him -- TAKE ANOTHER CLASS!

You'd think a course on Spanish cinema would be fun -- NOT THIS CLASS! The prof just talked on and on about whatever came into his head, mostly comments that were obvious to anyone who'd seen the films. He accepted any old thingy you wrote in the essays and gave almost no comments. This made for an easy mark but no intellectual challenge.

The class was much smaller than I expected - just a dozen students in a survey. It was also very basic and boring. The prof seemed to know a lot but had no idea how to make the readings relatable to students.

He treated the class like it was a burden just to get through and this made it unpleasant. On the other hand there was almost no work and he gave really high marks to everyone.

I've done almost none of the readings and put in maybe 15 minutes a week of work AND I"M GETTING AN A! Despite this you should think twice before taking this course. The lectures are boring and the prof talks down to you. Also forget about him helping. So the only reason to stay is because you'll get an easy A.

You'd think that a course on Spanish film would be fun but this was just the opposite. It was obvious that the prof thought that he could wing it without preparing. He'd come into class and say whatever came to mind or he'd just ask for our impressions. The result was that we learned nothing but almost everone got an A anyway.

He seems to know a lot about literature but his lectures are dry and full of bad almost tasteless jokes. Also the things that he finds interesting in the works are not what interest students (not me at least). But if you want an easy mark you should take the class anyway because the work load is a joke.
