Comment:
Dr. Hampton's class was very easy online. There was discussion post due before every class but it was straightforward about reading. As a science major reading the book was actually very interesting understanding how the mind works. Very lecture heavy, but the final was a a group project. No test!! Easy A

He is definitely passionate, and a nice man, but I just thought his lectures were so boring and long. I survived this class cause of my EPASS tutor. It wasn't that bad, but it could've been SOOO much better.

This semester, Prof Hampton changed the class structure by a lot. The only assignments we had are reading (20 pages), discussion posts before each class (twice per week), two easy and short papers, and one final project (in place of a final). Attendance is not mandatory, but he does go over important stuff related to upcoming assignments.

Professor Hampton is really passionate about animal psychology which is what makes not want to take him again. You have to do 20-30 pages of reading for each class but that's most of your learning. His lectures are just the reading information again with examples (mainly animal). Not a hard class at all and interesting if you like psychology.

cool dude and interesting class. this online format i think was one of the easier versions of his class that has been taught but I'm not complaining. definitely a class worth a try even if you're just mildly interested in psych.

He is passionate about animal cognition and will use a lot of examples to help you learn . His exams are hard but as long as you do better than the class average you will do well

please take the neg reviews w/ a grain of salt - i think the low ratings are more of a reflection of psyc 110 as a course. 110 is a difficult/boring class but im really glad that i took it w/ hampton. he kept us engaged and was accessible outside of class. the only thing is that he doesnt upload lectures so u must go to class. overall great guy!

Dr. Hampton is certainly not the worst professor in the Psychology department, but be ready for tough grading, intense reading, and mandatory studies that don't even boost your grade. He seems to care more about his research than education. I do NOT recommend him for those looking for an easy A or first years in their first semester.

I highly recommend taking Psych 110 with Hampton. 110 is a hard class and material can be dry but he is funny and uses a lot of examples to help with understanding. Make sure you are reading the textbook and other readings he assigns. All the tests are scaled relative to the overall class performance and he gives extra credit.

Lectures can be boring but he's not a bad lecturer other than that. Hampton mentions things in lectures that turn up in exams that aren't in the textbook, and there are things from the textbook he doesn't have time to discuss - I did a lot better when I did the reading. Writing assignment is an easy A, grades are adjusted and there's extra credit.

I would say the low ratings for Hampton are more student error than him as a professor. Psyc 110 in general is a boring and quite difficult class but Hampton tries to make the class as engaging as possible. Gives extra credit opportunities as well. Only thing is he doesn't upload lecture slides. Highly recommend him if you need to take psyc110.

Strongly disagree with the 1 ratings! Hampton is a GREAT professor to take pscy110 with - he's engaging, funny, and really cares about his students. lectures can be boring but thats bc psyc110 itself is boring material. tests are quite difficult but if you put in the genuine work, you will be fine. also offers extra credit. would strongly recommend

His lectures are engaging, but his tests are hard. He does not post notes or lecture slides on canvas, and often questions regarding videos and topics discussed in class will appear on the test.

Unless you eat, sleep, breath psych DO NOT take his class. I am a generally good student, took his 110, and my GPA may never recover. That's not to say I didn't try. I spent hours upon hours studying and reviewing for his exams. He's not nice or helpful in the least, and his lectures are confusing.

Should be called intro neuroscience as opposed to psyc. Extremely technical and easy to fall behind. It's in your best interest to copy down everything he says word for word and then memorize, because on the exam, expect to be tested on the tiniest details. There's extra credit and an easy booster assignment but average exam scores are VERY low.

He goes extremely fast. He does not provide notes. For a beginner level class it is not as interesting or simplistic as I'd hoped. Also, you will fall behind if you dont do the class readings. I'd recommend not taking Pyc 110 in the first semester. You'd much rather first take 111, and then 110.

Comment:
Hapmton's psych 110 class is a traditional lecture class. It has many students so he just presents his powerpoints. There is a fair amount of textbook reading, but you can do well without doing it. Tests focus on his lectures, with a few questions from the book. Wide distribution of scores, so you do have to study for tests, but its not that hard.
