Dr. Guynes is an excellent professor. He's willing to help you however he can but you must prove your work ethic. Does not and refuses to use Canvas at UNT. Expect a large volume of emails over the semester.

Attendance is not required, but he discusses homework in class. Plenty of examples to help you out, and he gives boatloads of extra credit. Test reviews are clear and are a decent indicator of what will be on them. His teaching/writing style is definitely a little eccentric, but once you get past that hes great. Clearly wants to see you do well.

Dr. Guynes is a great teacher. He doesn't pull any punches but he's fair, wants all of his students to do well in class and in life. Best attribute is his ability to relate coursework to real-world job scenarios. Course is heavily weighted by two tests. Can get 100% on all assignments but fail if not careful. Must attend and pay attention in class.

Guynes is a great professor. He really cares about his students and wants them to do well. Cobol is difficult but he's more than willing to help. There are homework assignments due every week, his examples are helpful. Start early and don't get behind. The tests are hard and you have to have a solid understanding of cobol to do well.

JAVA programming course that is a tough subject for some. The professor himself was great and very clear on his expectations. Homework are fun programming projects.

There's homework assignments due almost every week, but if you follow the hints and cobol examples then you'll make a 100 on them. The tests (2) however are a completely different story. I still don't know where half the questions came from and unfortunately the tests are worth way more, so if you don't do well on them then you may not do as well.

Guynes is an ok lecturer but the majority of necessary content comes from the book in this course. If you are new to programming prepare to read the book as it will give you everything you need. The book a great resource. If you have programmed before you really don't need to show up for class. If you put forth the effort an A is easy.

Sadly he doesn't allow computers during lectures so you're forced to watch/listen. It would be better if it were a hands-on class. Attendance is optional. I learned 90% of the material from the book. HW can be hard. 2 tests for 90% of final grade. Kinda crazy but they're somewhat easy. Make sure you read. Submit homework early for feedback. READ!!!

Excellent experience! Professor very helpful and knows his stuff, but the best thing about the class was the T.A. The guy is top of his class in the BCIS department (undergrad?) his name is Jay and he will help you get A or B if you get him. Both Dr. Guynes and Jay were very helpful and understanding. Tests not too bad, HW can be challenging. 5/5

Great professor! He really knows what he's talking about. He's been in the field so he is extremely helpful with all things related to BCIS. Class can be tricky at first if you've never programmed before, but he expects everyone to not know anything about JAVA at first which makes it pretty great. Definitely taking him again for more classes

I have taken this teacher both for BCIS 3620 (Mainframe) and BCIS 3630 (Java). Very excellent teacher. He is humorous, but also very knowledgeable, and wants all of his students to pass. I will say that you do not want to miss a single class. Both classes are easy A's, but only if you pay attention and attend class regularly. Would take again

This is the mainframe elective class. He is very quick to emails. Trust me you will need to email him a lot! This class is harder than JAVA 3630 but he explains the homework's in great detail. You should be fine if you were good in JAVA. There is no book so you MUST go to class. 2 Tests and 9 homework problems. I recommend this class and professor.

Good professor. Lectures over the important stuff, and also goes over examples. Homework is crucial as it adds up to 100 points. Only 2 exams, no final.

Very good professor! I came into this class not knowing anything about java, and I ended up with an A. He explains clearly, the homework problems are easy, towards the end they get a little harder. Tests are straight from the hints he gives, LISTEN in class because he tells you what will be on the test. Overall he is great!

Dr. Guynes is a great teacher overall, unless youre very interested in programming I can see how his lessons could get boring quickly. He is patient with students who ask questions and wants them to understand the answers. He had outside speakers come to class to talk with us, he really wants to help students succeed after college

Easy class. I only showed up for the tests and made a B for the semester. Gives good reviews for each exam and gives extra days to turn in homework. Do your work, keep up with the reading, and you'll be fine. emails are curt and to the point, but don't let that scare you!

I took guynes for honors BCIS and it was one of the easiest classes I have taken at UNT. Would extend the deadline for homework the day after it was due and tests were fairly easy and he usually curved. Tells a lot of random stories in class that are sometimes interesting.

One of the best professors I've had at UNT. If you do the work on time and show up to class he will be more than happy to give you extra help and explain things. The assignments are based on the textbook and its one of the best textbooks I've had as far as explaining clearly.

He will harass you until you turn in homework but you'll be glad for the extra motivation. DO NOT get behind on assignments as troubleshooting requires a lot of time. Ask him for as many review materials as possible for the exams. Class rarely ended early, he covers a lot of material ea. week!

Really easy. Just do your homework and show up to class and there's no reason you can't get an A. He goes above and beyond to not only make SURE you pass but to make sure you UNDERSTAND the material for the next class. I'd definitely take him again (and probly will for 3620).
