Comment:
He may have been a passionate, fascinating professor at one point in his career, but it appears that now he's just so sick of teaching that he is incapable of creating an engaging learning environment for his students. If you take the class (DON'T), read the notes on your own time instead of listening to him and you'll get more out of the course.

I hate to say this, because he is such a nice guy, but Sam Carrier is not a good professor. He doesn't care about his class, and that makes it very difficult for me to care. I honestly think this class was just his excuse to show people his favorite New Yorker Covers. Don't take this class. There are 40 kids enrolled. Less than 10 regularly attend.

A completely uninterested, dispassionate, impersonal professor. Gave boring lectures to an eight-person class instead of modifying them for a smaller audience. Never showed us grades for projects, presentations, or papers, and nothing discussed in class had any relevance to the assignments. Hard to communicate with. Avoid taking anything with him!

Run! for your own sake, as interesting as his classes can sound, don't take them! He just reads from his uninteresting power points. It's a waste of time and money. Worst teacher I've ever had, including high school. If you hear his name, run away! please, spread the word.

Bad, bad, bad. Avoid him. He doesn't teach anything that you couldn't learn in any other class, anyway. His class was rarely interesting, and never came to any conclusions. Papers were a joke. Use a graphic straight from his power point and you'll have him eating out of the palm of your hand. Oh, and compliment his great-grandfather's painting.

Pointless class. I don't think I learned anything all semester. He doesn't even read what you write until 5 minutes before your meeting with him.

okay, everyone needs to hold on and acknowledge that he's not a bad prof - he just has a different teaching style. he doesn't want to threaten and coerce students into learning with bad grades. instead he tries to create an environment where students make discoveries on their own. give him a break.

Sam Carrier sucks ass badly. He's awful! He's the worst! What a waste of time. All he cares is playing his stupid jazz CDs before the beginning of every class. I think he might have ADD.

Apparently, no matter what course he's teaching, he talks about whether the eye is like a camera. He's also rude to the staff of the Registrar's office, which is -1 million brownie points.

I'm surprised that he's teaching at Oberlin. No feedback at all on how you're doing. He's helpful with preparing for projects, but I didn't really learn anything in the course. He likes multimedia a lot-- if you don't know powerpoint he'll make you learn.

I don't know why he is teaching at such a great college as Oberlin! He is just not a good teacher! He doesn't even try to be any better! Such careless person! All he cares is his wife's dog's pictures.
