Comment:
Toker is very passionate about the material he is teaching, almost to a fault since he will often times go on rants about the material, leaving no time for other buildings. Tests are fairly easy, essay prompts given in advance, but multiple choice part is mainly based on lecture, so showing up is recommended. No final in the class, which is a plus

He's really eccentric and his lectures are very dry. Assigned a 10-page paper but it was very difficult to get any clarification from him on the assignment (he wouldn't answer questions). Two tests during the semester as well (essay + multi choice) and he emails out the essay question in advance.

Toker is a very interesting guy. He can be a bit eccentric but his lectures are really interesting. he also likes to get the class involved with field trips. The tests aren't hard in my opinion but going to recitation is key. Honestly great class with great prof.

Comment:
Professor Toker can divert from the topics often during lecture, but it is still crucial to attend lectures and recitations. Tests are multiple choice plus one essay (He gives you the prompt ahead of time and the TAs grade the essay). The class is interesting and very informative, but is not an easy A.

Toker is very knowledgeable and willing to talk with students at any time. To pass his tests you have to read the textbook, be detail-oriented, and you MUST attend the lectures. I would not recommend taking a class immediately after his because he frequently goes a few minutes overtime. You will definitely learn a lot about architecture.

Professor Toker is one of the best teachers I've had during college. He is very knowledgeable on the subject and is enthusiastic in his teaching. Tests require a good amount of studying, however, attending class is highly recommended as he greatly emphasizes the test material in lecture.

Great Guy! Very interesting class which truly opened up my mind. That being said, the tests are pretty tough, the second being the hardest. I suggest reading the text before lecture if you can.

Excellent teacher that keeps lectures interesting and engaging. Its a college level course so its going to be worth to study for the tests but is far with grading and questions on test. Overall, an interesting class and a great professor.

Although lectures are somewhat interesting, it is hard to study for tests. It's difficult to discern what's worth noting in lectures and what's not, so I suggest writing everything you can down, as you won't really know what's on the test. Generally, it seems like mult. choice is taken from lectures, and the Roth book will help with the essays.

the lectures are not bad, but tests are terrible. you are expected to know an unrealistic amount of material for such a short test. never know what material is important/note worthy or if he is just blabbing. impossible to study for. avoid at all costs.

The guy is very eccentric and full of himself. Not very helpful at office hours. Admitted that one TA was much harder than the other but refused to adjust for it. But, he is interesting and has a lot of insight. I got an A with a lot of hard work, not easy. Btw first test is much easier than last two.

HE IS THE MAN. just a very interesting teacher. its great because he pulls most of his test from lecture and recitation and hes interesting enough that you actually want to attend said lectures. Definitely not just an easy A but honestly i was happier working a little in this class than getting an easy A in a class that was boring as hell.

I had him for Intro to Western Architecture. The professor is a really nice guy. However, he expects you to memorize an impossible amount of information. This class is strictly memorization (dates, architects, every fact possible about a building). I do not recommend the class. WAY too hard for an art credit.

Prof. Toker is a wonderful teacher. Very kind, and understanding. It would be a privelage to come in contact with him and take one of his classes. He helped me out a great deal in order for me to understand the concepts in his class. It was alot of hard work, but it was all worth it. I've learned so much about my culture.

Professor Toker is a great teacher. He is very knowledgable of the subject as he is one of the world's top authorities on Architectural History. His class is not easy, there is a lot of memorization and reading involved. His lectures are very enjoyable and as long as you study and read the text, an A is not hard to achieve.

Clearly very knowledgeable and renowned in his field, and he lets you know it because he's very full of himself. However, his lectures are usually fairly interesting for a non-architecture major, and he has some fun stories. Tests are fair but really hard, there's a lot of memorization involved so you have to study.

His ego is through the roof. That being said, he makes the class his, and he shares his complete mastery of the material with all of the students. The lectures are very interesting. Need to be able to memorizes lots of dates and architects, but possible essays for tests are provided a week beforehand. Great class.
