He goes through the material very quickly if I had not taken calc in high school I would have been extremely lost. He doesn't really answer questions and I had to rely on other people in my class to help me. The only bonus is the take home final which dramatically increased my grade. There is group homework as well and individual.

Professor Gurak goes extremely fast in his lectures and is socially awkward. He is not a bad teacher hes actually pretty smart. It is just explaining it to the students is difficult for him. Get a tutor for his class because their will be times where you may need it!

I'm really good at math and have always loved the subject. Gurak was absolutely horrible though. He talked really fast and would erase the board before the notes were copied. He made things more confusing than necessary & didn't provide any better explanation when asked. He didn't seem to care about the students, & wouldn't tell you your grade.

Very good teacher but moves at a very fast pace. Information is presented somewhat clearly. Study guide is very similar to exam. Weekly quizzes, daily homework, and 3 tests, with 1 lowest test dropped, and last cumulative final. He curves most of his tests and quizzes. For such a hard class to take, he definitely made it much easier to understand.

hes a good teacher and a nice man but hes pretty weird. forget trying to charm him--it wont work. he likes to be smarter than his students. not very helpful in office hours, but he teaches well during class. weekly quizes and 3 exams--take home final. minimal homework compared with some of the other calc professors

You know those smart people that are social idiots, well he's one of them. Genius but can't command the classroom. Hard if haven't taken it before. Easy to get bored even if you like math. Try another teacher if you're not a math person. He tries really hard but doesn't explain well. Simple is not his middle name. good luck and read the book.

Dr. Gurak's class is very fast paced and covers a great deal of material. Charm and wit will get you nowhere, you must study and learn the material in order to pass. That said, the exams and quizzes are straight from the homework and lecture content. There are no surprises. Very fair grader, and he will go over homework in class and office hours.

If you have no experience in calculus, do NOT take him for this class. Even having aced calc in high school I was lost for a majority of the course. His quizzes are frequent and worth 5 points each (so everyone fails). The only way you can learn calc in this class is by teaching it to yourself. He enjoys being smarter than his students. Run.

ALOT of homework. But, that's necessary for the enormous amount of material covered in the class. However, tests were very fair, and he gives review sheets beforehand. If you do the homework and go to office hours, you can do well. Be prepared to spend a number of hours on the homework though.

Hes a pretty good professor. Quizes and homework are mostly fair. He sometimes does not know how to do the homework, looks up the answer and tries to work backwords to tell you the solution. Its not a good way to learn, but he does his best to help you get the answer right so you can get credit on homework.

Dr. Gurak is a nice man, and he smiles a lot. Unfortunately, that doesn't teach you math. Although he could explain a single problem 20 different ways, none of those were simplified enough so that his students could understand.

Dr. Gurak is a pretty chill teacher. His class isn't awesome but it's not bad either. If you are ok at math you will do fine. Some of his lectures are unclear. Tests aren't too bad quizzes are pretty easy. He's a fair grader.
