I just took PHIL 375 with Alia Al-Saji - probably my favourite class I've taken so far at McGill. Al-Saji is incredibly sweet, brilliant, critical, and very caring. (By critical I mean that she is not afraid to point out her critical thoughts on famous philosophers.) She is very self-assured. I would love to take many more classes with her!

The "A" in Al-Saji stands for AMAZING! She's a great lecturer and she definitely knows her stuff. She's extremely kind once you get to know her and always wants the best for you. Take her if you can--you won't regret it. However, keep in mind that this is not an easy A class. You'll definitely have to work for it! Read before coming to class!!!

Prof Al-Saji is a true sweetheart and is inspired to help her students understand the existential issue. Her gestures, examples and real world applications are priceless, her teaching tone and ability to convey the abstract through lectures is strong. Definitely recommend.

A horrifically boring lecturer with no passion for her subject. I took a class on existentialism a few years ago that made me fall in love with the philosophy. Professor Al-Saji almost made me lose complete interest. She goes off on so many tangents. Also her TAs are very hard markers. Very few assignments, so very little room for error.

Lectures are extremely well organized and structured (in-depth study and explanation of texts). One of my favorite classes at McGill, its a pleasure to attend her lectures. She is a perfect teacher and incredibly intelligent woman. She teaches the course in a very engaging way. Very approachable and helpful. Managed to make this big class "cozy".

She's a boring lecturer who is very unclear and makes the material a lot more difficult then it needs to be. She also only assigns two assignments throughout the entire semester, so there's very little room for error, and she and her TA's are VERY hard markers. She doesn't seem to actually enjoy existentialism,.

Smart woman and fun readings, but needs to be a bit more open minded when it comes to crticism of dogmatic and rhetorical philosophers. Watch about T.A.'s as well. Very picky!

Smart woman, makes an effort to get to know students, remembers names, does a good job at explaining rather difficult texts. The class seems difficult and overwhelming at first, but it gets easier as it goes along.

i think shes a good prof. not super complicated in-depth analysis of the readings or anything, but it is only a lvl 300 course, not a level 500 or anything. for alot of ppl this course is the first real phil. course theyve done. i recommend her.

Her lectures are simply an outline of the readings. At this level, most of us can comprehend the readings & an actual discussion ABOUT the material would be nice. Always gives nervous, curt responses to questions that aren't on her outline which makes her look a bit rude...and a bit unprepared.

she's a very poor prof. if you actually want to learn anything about philosophy, or in any way be stimulated by it, you should not take a course with her as prof.
