I graduated from cuse a few years ago and Prof Castro was an incredible professor and person in general. He genuinely cares about his students, their success and wellbeing. I took a few of his classes during my tenure at Cuse and his classes pushed my critical thinking, analysis and communication skills which have made me successful in my career.

Professor Castro is a great professor who really cares about his students. The lectures can be intense as they require you to do the readings. However, as an anthropology major I really enjoyed his class and got a lot out of it. He opened me up to a lot of realms within anthropology that I had never heard of before.

He was very forgiving when it came to missed classes so long as you participated when present. He is a fair grader. If you put in the work, you will get a decent grade.

Prof Castro is probably the best Max 132 professor. He is engaging and funny and is one of the only professors who doesn't make quiz you/make you submit notes on the readings. He is incredibly knowledgeable and the discussions are enhanced by his personal experience. He is a really tough grader but obviously wants you to succeed.

Comment:
Peter Castro was the worst professor I've ever had. This is an INTRODUCTION course. He focused on climate change because he was an author of the textbook. He made us understand how he defined a word, and how one of the textbooks defined the word. He was rude, disrespectful, and terribly boring. An intro class should not be that difficult.

Prof. Castro is a difficult grader and his discussion sections are very hard to follow. He sent me a very rude email in response to me sending him an essay draft I had been working on. He said, "I have read several drafts and frankly yours is the weakest one yet." I didn't need to be compared to the rest of the class. Stay away from his classes.

I love Prof. Castro! He is such an inspirational guy and really cares about his students. This is the class every anth major dreads, but Prof. Castro makes the material interesting and clear. There is A LOT of reading but its all worth it. There are several papers and daily reading responses, so the reading is important.

He knows his stuff but he isn't a great professor at all. The whole class dreaded going to every class, and he gives 30+ pages of articles each day (no lie). Would not recommend this class to anyone.

Castro made this class well worth the time. He is the best possible instructor to have for 132, because he does not quiz you on the readings, instead there is a lot of discussion in class. 75% of your grade is made up of three essays, 1200 words each. Sounds intimidating, but not that bad and fairly easy if you put in the effort. Great guy too.

Castro is a tough grader but still awesome professor. he's very knowledgable about the discussed topics and has great advise on how to approach essays. Go to his office ours, it will low key boost your grade since he recognizes effort. This class has long but interesting readings that are key to writing a good paper.

This class was good to fill core requirements and boost GPA. no attendance taken in lectures. slides are posted online so you don't really have to go to class, only drawback is the videos he plays in some lectures which are important for tests and response papers.

Excellent professor! He made everything very clear. He's clearly knowledgeable and is very helpful when you need him. He'll like you if you come to every class and participate. You can easily get an A if you do your readings and go to his office hours for help. He'll make you a better analyzer and please don't use the verb "to be."

Good professor, but the class was really basic and low-level. Probably a great class for non-anthro majors who want to fulfill a social science requirement; not that great for those with a more comprehensive understanding/interest in cultural anthropology, even as a freshman. A good overview course, though, I guess.

If you don't have to take this class, don't. There are a lot of boring readings and attendance three times a week is mandatory. However, Castro was a pretty good person to have for this class. He expects a lot but will help any student and he made me a better writer and analyzer!

Couldn't get a grip on him. Clearly experienced and knowledgeable, but expects a lot from his students. Requires a lot of participation and hard work of papers to earn a good grade. Classes are convoluted and confusing, rarely full of useful material.
