Comment:
She is probably the best PSTAT professor from the department. Lectures were super easy to follow and slides were amazing and there was only final no midterms so that was good. She was super organized and final was medium not too hard. The only thing I didn't like about the class was that she would take down the video from GS after every week.

Well organized class with a light workload and generous curve. Quizzes are mostly about syntax so watch out for that. Only grievance is that lectures were deleted 5pm on Sundays

Comment:
Professor Holmes has an extremely unfair grading scale and fails to provide clear instructions. The final exam was worth 50% of the grade during the winter quarter. The topics that were stressed by Professor Holmes and the TAs to study for the final never appeared and the questions were majorly SQL-based. It was an overall terrible experience.

Comment:
Rather an unfair grader. Quizzes are unreasonably difficult, with uniform 10 minutes and does not allow for DSP extensions. Gave a window to contest Final exam grades then proceeded to allow the final grades to be posted too late to contest. The least empathetic professor I've met in my academic career, and I took her class during the pandemic.

I took her pstat10 online. Lab attendance are mandatory, twice a week. Final is 50% of overall grade. Lectures will be deleted every Sunday. Her lectures are not very clear, and syllabus is always changing.

Literally robs you of your grade. Decides to have a surprise curve in the middle of the course. Grades hard on random things. Also decides to not drop a quiz that was clearly on the syllabus and reminded at the half way point of the course. Very specific and random things to lose points over.

Easy to follow lectures. Simple content. Slow speaker (use 2x or more speed if online class). 20% of students get A's (but says this helps more than hurts) She prepares us well for the final, but the content is not in depth. Not really good for long time knowledge; she sometimes doesn't explain the context of concepts too much.

Simplied course, only assigns hw problems on what is necessary. Light workload. Lectures are fine, but she deletes the previous week's lectures every Sunday.

if you have any coding experience, this class is super easy, lectures aren't even necessary you could stackoverflow the whole class. for some more specific R things, the lectures are useful and timestamped by topic. Only thing I didnt like is that she removed the lectures after 5 pm the sunday before the next week. Final was p easy

Dont take her if you have a better choice, otherwise you will find out yourself keep losing points on something unimportant and irrelevant to what you have learned from this class

Ask you put comments on every piece of you code and take all points of if you didn't. I got every thing correct on my final but lost 40 point all due to her stupid putting comments rule

The class wasn't that hard but the grading on worksheets was so weird. Whether you make a simple mistake or a few, you lose 50%. Since the worksheets were only out of 2 points, getting 1/2 all the time felt so bad. Especially when you had 2 hours to do them. The lectures felt slow, I had to watch them at 1.25 speed. Also only available for a week.

Holmes is respondent and a good lecturer. Asynch lectures but make sure to code all demos since theyre removed Sundays. Light workload consisting weekly of a straightforward 10ish question homework and 2 worksheets to be done in your section. Quizzes are multiple choice but questions can be a bit obscure at times. Final was simple and predictable.

Dr Holmes is an amazing lecturer. Her lectures are clear and concise. Homework and worksheet may be challenging but they prepares you for the final. Final was fair. If you did all the homework and worksheet, you'll do fine on final. Overall, 10/10! AMAZING EXPERIENCE

Doesn't teach us how to code but instead grades on picky details that are not relevant. Gives lots of B's and C's. She should be a housekeeper at "holme" not a professor.

This is the absolute worst professor Ive ever had in my entire time being a student. She deletes her lectures where she goes over important code demonstrations (Theres no reviewing). She gives hw assignments where her lectures have minimal relevance to what we were being asked to do. Would not recommend if beginner coder like me.

Decided to switch my major to Data Science because of her (no prior coding experience). Love her accent and teaching style. Do the hw even though it's not mandatory, that's where the small details on tests come from! She's very caring and wants her class to understand the material. Go to class because she doesn't post the code online. luv u dawn

An easy A if you have coding experience but dont expect to learn a lot from her. Class covers little. Old school teaching methods that are far from efficient. She tests you on picky details instead of how well you can code in R. Take with someone else if you can. Shes really nice and caring but I wont take a class with her again.
