Comment:
Prof Schlicker is a good guy and seems to truly care about teaching, but a lot of his class involves memorizing vocab and definitions. The last class of each week usually contains an exam and 3 page-long homework problems assigned the week before. There are also 3 tough group projects where you must be very specific. Wouldn't recommend his class

Hes a cool guy and seems like a nice grandpa but I felt so stupid in class. Every time I asked a question he responded with a question so I didnt get much clarity. Its easy to get lost but he does give points for pre-class assignments and our tests were open note and book (a book which he contributed to) which was extremely helpful.

Group Projects were my downfall. There's homework due in-class first thing every day(luckily its for completion). But that's on top of online WeBWorK assignments, and exercises graded for accuracy every week. Also a conceptual quiz every single week. More conceptual than any math class should be.

Comment:
This professor offers his own book for MTH 227 for free which is nice and convenient; however, don't expect to understand much from the book. This class has a lot to do with definitions and understanding those definitions while applying those definitions to the math. This professor doesn't teach much but expects his book to instead.

Highly recommend avoiding professor at all costs. He teaches Math as an English class. Tests and quizzes are based on how well you know definitions. By the end of the course, I couldn't apply anything I learned, I just knew definitions really well. Professor is very smug and doesn't treat students nice when visiting during office hours.

Teaches primarily by example in class, gives few notes and half the notes are definitions. Day-to-day homework is worth very little. Weekly homework/quizzes are also worth few for total grade and grades heavily on writing/format with group labs which make them extraordinarily difficult. Exams are worth 50% of total grade and unlike assigned work.

He definitely makes you work hard for your grade, but he is incredibly understanding. If you use his office hours and show him that you are trying, you will pass the class just fine. Get to know him, he is very resourceful!!

He's not a bad professor. He really cares about feedback and course evaluations and is getting better. However, he expects you to read the text and prepare yourself well before class. But hey that's college! If you don't prepare yourself well, then your grade will DEFINITELY reflect it. It'll take a bit to get used to it, but the class gets easier.

Cares a lot about the wording of answers. Make sure to follow the writing guidelines for assignments and projects or you'll lose lots of points. Overall cares a lot about teaching, and is a pretty cool guy in class.

I love calculus, but this class made me hate it. Assignments and tests are a 100% harder than they need to be. His labs are a nightmare; I never got better than a C, even when going to the math help center. He expects detailed writing but no answer is good enough. He's a nice guy; awkward, but nice. Just don't take his class.

His group projects and hands-on approach to teaching math really help you to learn in depth. He expects an extremely accurate, highly detailed answer in all assignments, tests, and projects, but by demanding that level of answer, he really ensures that you learn the material inside and out.

Ok class. He is a nice guy that tries hard, but his classes can get very boring. He will give you problems in class and then walk around as you do them, very boring. But tests were all open note, and quizzes were just one conceptual problem.

I will be as straight forward as I can: -Any class with this man is a GPA killer -Your grade is his opinion of you -He teaches math as if it were a writing class -DO NOT claim to have a handle on the material, he will take it as a challenge Never before have I had a prof that compelled me to rate them. All of the above is putting it mildly.

For a subject matter that should be relativity simple and clear, he makes it far more difficult than it should be. Tests are nothing like practice problems or homework assigned. The book is a joke and not helpful. Miss any work on a question and expect to loss most of the points. If you value your gpa and sanity don't take this professor

He's the bomb. He tries to make you figure out the answer without just telling you. However is always willing to help. Makes sure everyone is on the same pace but make sure to ask questions.

Not a bad prof, keeps things light hearted. There are formal labs due every other week and it's extremely time consuming. He is an extremely hard grader, the math is easy but on the writing (and there is a ton) he grades hard and very picky. I took and aced Calc1 in high school but the in an issue w credits I took this class again-it was still hard

If you don't have a PHD in math, you wont be able to get a good grade on the projects. Very theoretical. Provides real life examples but gets lost in the little details. ASK QUESTIONS OR GET LEFT BEHIND!

First off he's very particular about the language you use when doing projects for the class. Although the guidelines are there for syllabus it's still hard to get a good grade on the projects. Should make the projects more clear. Lots of vocabulary for a math class to know. Uses his own textbook which doesn't have solution in it for you.
