Comment:
This class was awful. This was supposed to be an education seminar, and we didn't talk about education once during the entire course of the class. She made us do ridiculous group projects (i.e. go to the sustainability institute and do a presentation to the class) and forced us to cook even though she knew we had no kitchen access! Avoid if you can

Snoozefest! She loved guilt trips (like buying food from anywhere but a farmer's market, owning a cell-phone) It was a one credit class but she gave as much work as a 3 credit class. She tried to change our lifestyle but didn't teach us about education. she made us cook even though she knew we lived in dorms with no kitchens. Avoid her if you can!!

Madhu is a fantastic philosophy teacher, and a good person. She is 100% sincere, and is always herself. If you like to have rubrics or a point system, you won't like the assessment, because these are anathema to her teaching philosophy. Instead she will help you challenge your assumptions and help you learn ed philosophy.

Madhu is the most beautiful wonderful soul I have ever met. She loves each and every one of her students and tells us all we are each others' teachers. This class makes you question your beliefs and makes you cultivate your own philosophy of education. The people that hate this class are set in their ways and aren't open to learning and loving

This class will push you. If you like to live in your bubble then this class will not be enjoyable for you. If you want to learn about education, localism, and how to take an active role in shaping your community's future, then this class is for you. Those who rated this class poorly are beyond my understanding.

She doesn't follow a syllabus , is vague with her assignments, and doesn't like disagreement with the ecological frame of the class. If you're ok w/ a TON of b.s. work (20 papers), take the class. Don't take if you actually want to discuss issues holistically: she is too one-sided and your grade will suffer if you do not change to see her opinion.

Very expressive, neat teacher. Definitely the best professor for the class. Either you like this class or you don't, and she does a good job making people like it. Readings are ok but not usually vital to the class.

EDTHP 440 is a wonderful class that explores very deeply the big picture of education. I would take it again. How a culture defines success and "being educated" are core questions here. I recommend this class. If you are lazy or just want to perpetuate the status quo PLEASE do not take this class, you will slow down the rest of us who DO care.

Madhu has to be on of the best profs I ever took at Penn State. Yes, there is A LOT of reading and writing, but this is college. She is very heartfelt, and actually cares for her students. That is very hard to find now in days. A must take class for teachers. She is really life changing!!!!

Madhu is the ideal teacher. She doesn't just teach us how to be, she is that way. She is kind, considerate, genuine, strong, reaches out to us, goes the extra mile, makes us feel comfortable, never judges us, appreciates us for who we are, understands us, and most importantly, lets us be ourselves and praises us for that. Changed my whole world.

Madhu was a great professor. I learned a great deal about educational theory in her class; more importantly, though, her class made me THINK about every aspect of education. The works that she asked us to read had purpose and left an impact. If you approach her class with an open mind, you're likely to learn a lot.

A lot of people who have rated Madhu have complained about the amount of work - it's college, people. Yes, this course requires a LOT of reading and writing, but it's really interesting material that is the impetus for great discussion. You DO learn about education, just in a different way. Come to class with an open mind and a passion for teaching

This class was kind of pointless, lectures were totally unplanned by Madhu, she seemed to make it up as she went along, you could probably not go and still do fine. You do have to go to recitation because attendance is taken in that, if you have a good TA you will most likely do fine, however most of the assignments in this class were annoying.

I would rather shoot myself in the foot than have to sit through this class again. This class is required for edu. majors but it is just awful. I didn't go to lectures and am managing an A. Recitation isn't so bad though, and you have to go to that. I learned absolutely nothing from this class. Prakash is not a very good instructor.

Madhu made my feelings towards educational policy diminish. I did not enjoy one bit of her class. The only positives from the class were the TA's, who made the class easier to understand. The guest speakers gave us a good break from Madhu's boring lectures, but most of the time I found myself regretting to show up. Take it with another professor.

The class had its good and bad days. Guest speakers had nothing to do with the actual class assignments. So you did not have to attend those lectures. Really, your grade all depends on your TA...so be careful which one you end up with.
