The class is interesting because the films she shows are really cool. Can be a bit lecture heavy at times but the lectures always relate well to what she screens. SHOW UP TO CLASS. Also, do any extra credit you can in the beginning because it can be hard to keep up towards the end of the semester.

I love Toni so I am a bit bias. The class is reading heavy but worth the information as it is very interesting. Theories can be hard to understand but she does a good job of explaining them in more modern terms. Papers can be long and difficult to write, but she's always willing to help.

Toni makes you work hard, but I think she is a great professor. She really wants her students to learn. Yeah, the big papers are tough, but she is great to work with during office hours to make sure you understand the material. Definitely try and get on her good side during the first few days.

Toni was a wonderful Professor. At first this class seemed like an endless amount of work, but I soon realized she just wants you to live up to your potential. Not just do the bare minimum. She made me get excited about learning again! Take her if you actually want to further your education!!

Toni is one of the hardest professors I have ever had at GVSU. She is not very accommodating to students (doesn't post grades on BB) and she is a really tough grader. Her classes are required, but do NOT take two on the same day as I did, huge mistake. Get ready for reading and group presentations. If she likes you the class will be way easier.

Most of the grades come from short essay responses to the 30-50 pg. weekly readings (not bad, the reading was useful) and she offers lots of E.C. She's very open in office hours and will explain exactly what she is looking for, it's the same with the 2 big papers you write. Just be respectful and communicate with her, she is a great professor.

She is a very hard grader because she doesn't explain what exactly she wants for assignments and makes up how she grades after you turn it in, which is completely unfair. She does give extra credit, but you have to be willing to work really hard for an A.

Very frustrating to have as a Professor. Not a clear communicator at all. The readings and lectures are occasionally interesting but usually are just tedious and leave you feeling dead inside. Get ready to dedicating precious hours of your life writing long papers about applying vaguely defined political ideologies to a modern day film.

She can be tough, but she's not unmanageable. She wants everyone to pass and she will work with you to boost up your grade with extra credit. She doesn't want you to leave in the middle of class but that's understandable because it's an auditorium and leaving is distracting. Get ready for two big papers, a group project and a lot of reading.

I had her for a 100 level class and she shouldn't be teaching lower level classes. She is the only PhD in the department and expects a lot of her students. She's not ideal for lower classes, but it's manageable. One thing that irritated me is that she would not let us use the bathroom during class (despite it being at 9am after many had coffee).

Perrine is not a bad person to talk to outside of class, but definitely not professor material. She has a very clear mindset on what she's looking for in a paper, but if it is not absolutely up to par with her standards, you will fail. I recommend seeking help outside of class, and staying on her good side. She also flies through notes, so beware.

The only PhD in a department that desperately needs more. The only faculty member capable of teaching Film Theory and World Cinema. Her classes are rigorous but incredibly important in providing a foundation for seriously thinking about cinema. Prepare to read, write, watch, and work and you'll do quite well. All others need not apply.

Toni is extremely knowledgeable, but one of the most difficult professors I've had in my four years at GVSU. She grades papers as if she's teaching a class full of writing and English majors. She requires a 2,000 word research paper, four 500 word papers, and the midterm is a 1,500 paper, and the final is some sort of medieval torture mechanism.

Worst professor i have ever had! It is impossible to get a decent grade in her class and I have gone to every single one of them. She's rude, is impossible to please when it comes to papers, and expects you to be an expert on film. AVOID

She is by far the worst professor I have had. Boring lectures, not the nicest person, and she expects everyone to be an expert in film even though the class is a gen ed. DO NOT TAKE.

As a film student, I loved taking Perrine's class. Her lectures are engaging and clear. Yes she is a tough grader but she is very fair and her expectations are clear. Some people are offended by her honest attitude, but those people just are used to the other professors at Grand Valley that aren't nearly as challenging as Perrine

Perrine is a great professor, very knowledgeable and open minded. It's sad that a lot of students don't appreciate her enough. She expects you to put in the effort and doesn't underestimate you. So don't take her if you're a slacker.

Comment:
I'm done with Perrine. Shes very knowledgeable but that's it. Her grading scale is impossible to work with, she's super strict, she has humiliated me not once but twice in class. Computers and other electronics aren't allowed in her classes. It's not a fun experience in her class and you'll be hating it after a week. Proceed with caution.
