Comment:
BEWARE! This class was by far much harder than my CIS 200 level classes. Professor Hornik doesn't do a good job at explaining code, and each week the projects get harder and harder. The tests are open note, but even with that it is hard to do well. Unless you have a background in coding/programming, I would not take this professor. I struggled HARD

My first programming class. If theres 1 tip I can give you to survive CIS160 it is to GET HELP. These are hard concepts. I would suggest his office hours or the success center. I went every single week to get help on the assignments and I have a 97% in the class. Tests are open note. Hornik is a great guy. Can be boring but is ALWAYS ready to help.

Prof Hornik is sort of a boring professor, but don't change your class schedule or anything. If you show up to most of the lectures (not mandatory) and show up to all of the labs (mandatory) and work hard in them, you'll do fine. He is a fine professor. Lectures are just a little boring.

Hornik has the patience of a saint. The class was really slow for me, but I am clearly more advanced than my fellow students. I wanted to dole out throat punches in every class, but he calmly helped everyone to move forward.

Joe is a great professor who loves helping students learn. If you are genuinely interested in COBOL, he is more than willing to help you understand and fix whatever is going wrong. His project requirements are very straightforward. He even uses class lectures to go over EXACTLY what you will do in the project. Book required. Or at least a few pages

He allows open book and notes on exam, but you still have to put in an incredible amount of work and understand the material.

Hornik is old. But he knows a lot about what he teaches and is always an email away when you need to ask a question. This class was a 6-9pm so the lectures were extremely boring, but the class was not hard at all. Just pay attention to the notes and you'll get an A. All tests are open book, but somewhat difficult.

He's a cool guy and the class was cool. It did get boring from time to time but this isn't suppose to be a party. The professor himself was a cool guy. He is very laid back and willing to help. He is a good professor just to chat with.

He is a nice person who is helpful. Open Notes/Book and only takes attendance for labs. The class is a breeze if you have any programming knowledge at all. If you don't then just read the book.

Awesome professor and a pretty funny guy to be around. Explains everything very well, but if you have him for a long block of time, his lectures can be a bit of a bore.

Joe's a very nice guy and pretty funny. If you're even a little bit computer savvy, this course should be a breeze. Class is very well organized and structured, and schedule was adhered to. Highly recommended for a non-CS major, and probably the CSIS majors as well.

Internship...what a joke. This was the easiest class every. Turn in your journals, do your final paper, evaluate yourself, that is it. What a waste of money. Jokes on the company that I worked for. They pay for my classes, so they payed for my internship and paid me. HA.

Very simple class, if you know anything about programming otherwise very simple if you read the text through. Professor very helpful, and open book tests. Although I had the 3 hour class and it got pretty boring, he doesn't take attendance except lab altho he does give hints 4 hmwk & tests during lecture, so usually best to go.

COBOL can be an annoying language, but he makes it easy and straight forward. The tests are open book/note, so if you have a general understanding of the topics you'll do fine. An 'A' is no problem if you give a good effort.

Took him for Cobol, really laidback guy. Most helpful prof i've ever had when we're in lab, if you ask what's wrong with your program he tells you, no making you guess or a vague answer. Open book/note tests make the class easy enough and fun to take.

Great guy, really friendly, has a laidback personality and a sense of humour. Explained material well, and helped students who needed it. Tests are open book/note, so GO TO THE LECTURE! That way you can take good notes and do well on all of the exams.
