Comment:
Professor Samuels is a great English lecturer. She is well-versed in her main area of literary study (Renaissance literature, specifically the oeuvre of John Milton) and, additionally, is knowledgable about the collective English literary canon. She gives clear, constructive feedback on essays and strives to make the materials taught accessible.

She is the devil! When she grades stuff she just tells you to go to the writing center, but she doesn't tell me why "You have a bunch of problems, I'm not sure what they are, but you should go to the writing center and tackle them one at a time." That's helpful, thanks. She also told the dean I should be on probation just cuz I sucked in her class.

She's nice on the outside, but when it comes to grading, she has a darkside. She gave me a 1/5 on my first essay and said that: "You make strong points, but you need to go into a little more depth, not because you went awry." If I didnt go "awry" why did she give me the lowest possible grade? At the very least I deserved a 2 or 3.

Reading the description of Peggy as "cut-throat" literally made me laugh--she is one of the kindest professors out there, and a great human being. I always had a good time in her class, she's funny and relaxed and doesn't take herself too seriously. Would take a class with her any day!!

She hides behind scholarship she doesn't understand, can't help students understand, and fears that they know she falls short. Milton from her is a hope for ambrosia but a disappointment in sour milk. She has no insights. I didn't think anyone could spoil Milton this bad.

Comment:
Seemed nervous at first, then was very uneasy in front of students. Because of this, she was quick to slam down anyone who showed any signs of disagreement or exhibited interests other than her own. In short, BORING and cut-throat, but never harsh to a student's face. Can't take criticism and doesn't know good material if her life depended on it

Encourages students to expand their own points of view while seeing things from other points of view. A true scholar.

she signed me up for freshman english (which i had placed out of), pretty much because she didn't like what i had to say in my paper. be prepared to cater to what she wants to hear, even though she'll encourage you to express your own ideas. definitely discouraged me from becoming an english major!

A very nice person, but VERY unclear. If you're not in love with poetry, don't take Literary Analysis. She has her own train of thought on how assignments connect, and doesn't really clue students in.

She's not a BAD professor per se, she just assumes that all her students will automatically understand everything she says, which is often unclear ...

one of the worst professors i have ever had. makes most potential english majors doubt themselves as such. made it known who her favorites were from the get-go. would rather send you to the writing center than help them herself.
