Aram Yengoyan is without a doubt extremely intelligent and knowledgeable but has a horrible time communicating his points. He tends to go off on tangents and speaks very abstractly. My classmates and I were LOST this quarter. Really disappointing. I hope you get a better TA than we had.

Oh man prepare to get lost. I appreciate the guy's passion for language and culture but unless you can manage to follow him during lectures without finding an excuse to leave, take him. He's quite hilarious.

Either you like him or you don't. He's old fashioned, and reads off of his notes and he doesn't slow down(unless you ask him to). But if you go to every lecture you'll adapt to his lecture style and find out the material he lectures isn't hard to understand. He's a hilarious guy too. Books in this class weren't required to pass and hard to read.

Aram is amazing. His lectures are not very well structured, though interesting and thoughtful. He really makes you see culture from a different perspective (superogranic how he himself calls it:) ). Highly recommended.

Funniest professor I had! He does ramble on a bit, but i got the classical note and didn't even attend class and still did good. I thought it'd be hard and did pass/no pass and ending up getting an A on the midterm =/

Bumbling lecture style, he could not provide a clear definition of lecture topics when asked to do so by students in the class. Does not understand how to distill his lecture material down into a comprehensible form for undergraduates. His lecture style should remain in upper division courses. Avoid this professor if it is possible.

I took his class over the summer which meant no TA to rely on. He IS hard to understand, rambles, ans is altogether incomprehensible, but if you attend class and get the "keywords" for a little wiki help, you end up doing fine on exams. Never had to use books, and notes from class actually were sufficient for an A in the class. He is a nice man!

Anyone who is truly interested in anthropology, and not just taking this to fulfill reqs: PLEASE LISTEN TO ME. Aram is amazing. Yes, he is unclear, yes he is hard, but anthro in itself is geared towards the pursuit of deeper understandings. Aram is a wealth of knowledge, a true gem of the anthropological community. Serious students only!!

Aghh, I couldn't understand a word this Prof. said. He spews incomprehensible equations [control = (mass)(intelligence)^2], constantly references submincision, and makes weird comparisons to the dollar store. Also he is extremely rude to any student that asks a question. If you don't get lucky and get a good TA, you are thoroughly screwed.

The class material was as unorganized as his lectures. He isn't able to give information effectively, which is bad because he lists a lot of what he says on the midterms and finals. He is EXTREMELY hard to understand, and his tests are unpredictable, no matter how much you study. I DON'T recommend this professor!

Its really hard to understand and stay focused in this class. The classical notes and attending discussion saved my life. The TA's help alot and I personally thought Adrian was the best so try and get him. Theres one paper that isnt hard, and the midterm and final arent bad if you have a slight idea of what the class is about.

He was so boring, and he would just write his train of thought on the board-it made no sense. I stopped going to class-get the classical notes, they help a lot. Your TA grades everything, make sure your TA is good. I had a bad TA who didn't give me points for right answers. The essay is really easy to get an A+ on, but I hated this class!!!

Funny prof. Class is weird. Everything is graded by your TA, so that's all that really matters. The TA helps with a lot of stuff that no one understands from lecture. a midterm, term paper, and final. I feel like my TA graded fairly easy. Lots of the terms on the review sheets I looked up on wikipedia and still got an a in the class. but then i nev

Thought I was doing so bad that I actually did a pass/no pass for this class. Unfortunately, the date to change it was before the midterm and essay, and now i sorely regret not taking it for a grade. Did really well on the midterm/essay. There goes my triple dip...couldn't understand anything the prof. said; relied on classical notes and reading.

Wow. Well, he definitely knows what he's talking about - he just doesn't really know how to say it. Extremely confusing and hard to follow (nearly every aspect of the class), I actually was considering Anthro, but not anymore. Befriend your TA, read the book, don't bother with lectures, and subscribe to Classical Notes.

Very weird class. Neither the lectures nor the books are required to pass the tests. I mostly relied on wikipedia/sparknotes to pass. Easy grader, but the only reason I ever went to his class was to get terms that were required for the tests. No paper required unless you ask him a question in class--then he will force you to write one.
