Very informative. Their are many readings with discussion boards every week. After about 3 or 4 weeks of discussion boards you are a given an exam. 3 exams in total. They are based on answering questions specific to the readings. He grades fairly you will most likely get an 80+ on everything if you try. Definitely recommend him!

Took this class for fun and ended up hating it. Makes you feel stupid whenever you go to answer a question. Acts like he hates Philosophy and would rather do something else with his life. Makes you take a quiz on difficult old writings prior to class discussion, then grades extremely harsh. DO NOT TAKE HIM, unless you love Philosophy!

Very boring. Just analyzes the readings with no connection to anything modern. Harsh grader. Make sure you write exactly in line with his views if you want to do well.

6 one page quizzes and 2 five page papers, no books required, he gives articles. If you don't know what he is looking for out of each philosopher you will struggle. Mills is his favorite Philosopher.

Dr M is fair above all else, and strives to provide a positive learning experience. He's on the dry and sarcasic side, though, so if you're not into law, don't go here for fun. 3 req. papers/2 tests/ moderate reading load.

This class is a must for anyone doing the double major in philosophy and political science and is certainly an adequate pre-law course. All pre-law students should have some exposure to philosophy of law. Dr. Miller is a very thorough and clear lecturer.

Dr. Miller is probably the most difficult professor I've had at ODU. However, I was the only non Philosophy major/minor and received one of the highest grades in the class. Work hard and clarify with him when you aren't sure on something and he'll help you. Great, funny, prof. Would take again.

doesnt require you to buy books for the class. gives 4 paper topics but only grades you on three and you have to pick before you know what the topics are. His lectures tend to work out the philosophers point of view but you NEED to ask questions and risk looking dumb...he'll make you feel dumb sometimes when you ask what he thinks is a simple quest

I DIDNT REALLY FIND THIS CLASS TO BE INTERESTING. THE PROFESSOR RATHER THAN HELP STUDENTS SARCASTICALLY DISCOURAGES THEM. I WOULDNT RECOMMEND TAKING HIS CLASS

boring, very boring, no need to go to class because he doesnt teach he just talks and expects everyone to listen. not really clear on what he wants in assignments (2-2 page papers, 1-4 page paper, midterm, final) wouldnt recommend him take someone else for this class if at all possible. please dont waste ur time on him...

Phil of law. Looks like Tom Green in a sweater vest and has a very monotone voice. Class not too bad-lots of reading, but only 4 papers & a final (which is only 2 essay qs). Going to the class doesn't help much.. he doesn't take attendance, and all he does is talk about the readings from the previous night. Boring, but an easy greade.

"The true medicine of the mind is Philosophy" (Cicero). Great Smile and interesting class. Professor Miller is a great teacher. He encourages class participation but does not demand it. You should do find on his exams as long as you study the study guide. (Excellent study guide!!!)

Great professor. Interesting topics, makes sure you understand the matterial if you are willing to work (and only work little), and is quite funny when he wants to crack a smile on his students. I went everyday and never once felt like going to sleep.

Comment:
He says that he wants your perspective, but when he grades the papers...he writes all over them what his opinions are. Just try to remember in your papers to play the devil's advocate...meaning if you take a stance, make sure to adress other perspectives as well. It is still possible to get an A in the class...the tests are very easy.
