I would definitely recommend this professor for CHM 102. Professor Baum made this class exceptionally easy, and as long as you do your online assignments its an easy A. He also allows test corrections for half points back on all exams. He really wants his students to succeed.

Easy A /B+, but Prof Baum even stated that a lot of what he says isn't what we need to know, and he will ramble on about information that is not relevant. This creates an overload of information that is harder to process. He also doesn't explain anything well, if at all. Nice guy but arguably the worst professor I've had at GVSU, and I'm a junior.

He also allows test corrections for half points back on all exams. He rarely takes attendance, but showing up will definitely make tests easier. Great professor overall!

Baum is a nice guy, but his lectures tend to be super boring and not interesting. The book comes with a code online that you use to do homework, so don't buy the actual one if you want. He does let you do test corrections for half the credit back on exams. He's super boring in his lectures though.

Baum is a nice guy. He gives study guides as well as goes over the study guide the class before the exam. He allows you to do test corrections for half the points back on the exams and all of the homework is online. He is a quiet talker and can be hard to hear.

This class was an easy A. Homework was graded for completeness. Test corrections were allowed. Lectures were usually dull. Baum is a nice guy, but it was hard to learn what was on the test when the homework had no corrections, because I never knew if I understood the material. Used Khan Academy when necessary and did fine.

Comment:
Lectures were sooo boring and he often did math problems wrong, so be prepared to teach yourself the material if you actually want to learn. His class was super easy because he did open book tests and test corrections, so an easy A if you try a little bit. However, we learned nothing about chem, just that acid rain and greenhouse gases were bad.

If you need a science class with a lab, but you aren't very interested in science, this is the class for you. Super dry lectures, but it's nearly impossible to get below an A. Homework is credit / no credit and you can do exam corrections if you managed to do poorly on one. Don't expect to learn much, although some of the concepts are interesting.

His class was perfect for non-science majors. Lectures could be dry, but the class activities weren't bad. Only one end of the year paper. Homework was not graded for accuracy. His test were hard but I feel like he was a lenient grader and he also gave us the opportunity to do test corrections. He clearly cares about his student's doing well.

Prof Baum does not care about anything lol. We took a chem test and I literally thought about dropping the class, because he does not teach. I ended up getting a B+ on it and I was SHOOK. I am not a science major, so I found this part of the class to be really challenging.

This class very hard to fail. He doesnt check homework for correctness, you could leave answers not done and will still get a 100% on the HW. Pop quizzes but once again he will still give you a 100% even if you leave things blank. To me his tests were pretty hard but somehow I could still get a 90% or higher because he gives test corrections

Professor Baum is super smart and a great teacher. Hes not very strict, and his class is pretty easy. Hes perfect for students that arent science majors because his lectures can be applied to real life and he realizes that science isnt the main focus for many students.

Gives partial credit back for exams and grades homework/labs based on effort! Lectures are rather lengthy, but it's worth it for sure

Assigned few projects and decided on the spot what they would be. Attempted to teach about Art History without any understanding of it or qualifications to do so. Students were responsible for grading each others presentations. He was removed from the course part way through the semester.

Professor Baum doesn't care if you are in class or not. All of the homework is out of the book but you get grades for effort, not correctness. Tests are a piece of cake and if you get less than an A you can do test corrections. He makes the class fun and lets us out early often.

He's a really nice old man. There are three exams that determine your grade but he lets you do corrections for half the point back. No midterm or Final. All the homework is done online.

Professor Baum is really passionate about chemistry. He understood that my class was not for science majors and did not attempt to make us learn lots of details. It was easy if you came to the lectures and payed attention. He loves to interact with the students.

Professor Baum is a nice guy with good intentions. He attempts to make Chemistry fun for non-science majors by making it life applicable. Does not grade homework or labs, does them for credit no credit. As long as you pay attention and study his guides for the 3 tests (worth 70% of grade) it is not too bad. 90 or higher is an A.

Baum was pretty good considering I have no interest in chemistry. The class does a good job of making what you learn relevant to life outside a classroom. Baum knows his stuff really well and that is pretty obvious from the start. For nonscience majors in the honors college I'd say he's definitely the way to go. Not too difficult to do well in.

Professor Baum is a fantastic guy. He's got a dry sense of humor and comes off as a little intimidating, but he's a really nice guy. His class is an absolute cake-walk if you read the book. The lectures are pointless but you learn from the labs. Homework every week but the grading is very easy. Gives you a pizza party during finals week! Loved him.
