Don't understand why others don't get the point of her stories. Interesting stuff and always a point for public relations use and study. Hard, but she knows what she is talking about and examples are interesting and personal. Real. She has done it. Been there. Lucky to have someone of that caliber.

In my opinion, this is the worst professor at TCU. I had to drop the class because of how ridiculous it was. Course description should read: "An overview of Doug Newsom's 90 year career..and counting. Prerequisite to useless knowledge."

ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE! She's quite stuck in her old ways. You can tell she hates teaching and she takes it out on the class. She's got one more class she's teaching next semester and she's gone. if it can be AVOIDED, DO NOT TAKE HER!!! She wrote our textbook and is really nitpicky--DO NOT TAKE HER!!! I wish I had looked at ratemyprofessors.com.

Absolute nightmare. Does not cover anything in class, tells personal stories and shows videos from the 1970s then turns around and gives extremely difficult tests. She assigns one case study after the other with exams in the same week and a major semester long project. She marks off for not knowing things about PR that she hasnt even taught us.

By far the worst teacher I have ever encountered. She claims she covers things that she never did. She lectures all class about her personal life and then expects you to understand some PR undertone to the story. DO NOT TAKE UNLESS YOU WANT TO STRUGGLE FOR A C.

The only way to do well in this class is to do as many extra credit reports as possible. Dr. Newsom's tests have a class average around 60%. You will do fine on outside work, but it is close to impossible to do well on her test. She gave me my first C at TCU. If you value your grades,AVOID HER CLASS AT ALL COSTS!!! SHE IS TENURED!

She is the worst teacher ever. She talks about absolutely irrelevant stuffs in class. Her questions are impossible. You'd think it'll get better but it keeps getting worse. DO NO TAKE HER

Man oh man do I regret taking her, like everyone else has stated she drones on and on, and eventually the most diligent note taker won't be able to get anything out of her ramblings. No doubt smart, just not very good at teaching us what we need to know... oh yeah the tests are random and impossible to study for. Avoid at all costs!

Terrible class and professor. She is really boring and loves to tell her life story. Test questions are very random and unpredicted. Always came to class and read the chapters, but the only reason I passed was because I did over 30 extra credit articles.

Good lord this class is boring. She doesn't teach, just tells pointless stories about past experience and then laughs to herself while everyone just sits and stares at her. Don't study for tests, it's a waste of time. I made an A because I did over 40 journal articles of extra credit. Run. Far.

By far the worst class I have ever taken at TCU. I really hope nothing that was supposed to be learned in this class will be needed for future classes because she taught ABSOLUTELY nothing. I read the book, came to class, and studied for days before the test and still got a C.

She doesn't really teach anything in class and the only reason to go is to get attendance credit. The quizzes and tests cover a lot of information and she is very picky with her questioning. I would strongly reccomend to stay away from her and take the other teacher for PR principles.

She may have written the book, but she doesn't teach us anything from it. Mabe she is just too old to remember anything she wrote. There is no point as to what she talks about in class. The book is about 400 pages long with 8pt font and she picks the smallest possible details out of it to test you on. Do not take her she is horrible and a waste of

She is by far the olsest teacher at this school. You never know what she is talking about... all she does is tell stories and talk about her cats. Her test and quizs are so hard. She expects you to know and understand everything out of the book( which she wrote). She never goes over material in class either. It is impossible to get a A. HORRIBLE!!!

Doug is a professional to emulate, but not the best teacher. She isn't clear on her instructions and her grading techniques are unpredictable. But just by being in her class, you will learn more about PR than from any other prof (especially Thomas) at TCU.

I love Doug. She is the sweetest lady. She gets a bad rap because he class is boring, but everyone going into PR can learn a lot from her. Go talk to her outside of class, it won't help you with your grade, but she is the nicest lady and will help you any way that she can.

old as a bat, but she LITERALLY wrote the book on pr. you can learn a lot from her, even though her classes are a little boring. go and see her one on one - it will help your grade out if she knows who you are and if you seem interested.

I met this woman many years ago when I was a freshman at UT-Austin. I thought she was the sweetest, smartest person imaginable. Many years later I'm a journalism prof attending a conference at TCU. She was rude, cold, distant, arrogant. I've taught PR, but I would never consider her book. I was not surprised when I the negative comments.
