This is by far the worst prof I've had at Acadia so far. I dono why anyone would give him a good rating. He goes way to far in sharing his personal life stories, almost to the point where you are uncomfortable. He also doesn't teach anything, he just expects you to teach yourself from the book... a very boring book. STAY AWAY from his courses...

I used a bit intimidated by Jim, but after getting to know him I have learned that he is actually a very approachable man. If you try your best in his class, he will try his best to help you. Made what I expected to be a boring class quite enjoyable.

yeah hes a really smart guy but he certainly doesn't know how to teach a course. no structure to it and then you are thrown into an exam after teaching yourself the longest boringest chapters from the textbook that you don't even know what they are talking about half the time. hes funny and tells good stories but ... oh boy.. didn't enjoy this clas

Great class, if you are not an arts student it is difficult to manage this class. Reading the text is mandatory. But Jim makes his lectures very interesting and he speaks the truth about global problems. Highly recommended that you take his class, :)

He can teach you lots about how Capitalism is bad, and give you a couple of one sided book to back himself up. He's a good person but his course is structured to make things harder for some than others - and this is based completely on luck. Some are handing in their term papers a full two weeks before others in his course!

Utter communist. It's not that I don't see the flaws with capitalism, my problem is that not once were we ever encouraged to think critically about the texts [which sometimes presented opinion as fact]. Holding and expressing an opinion that wasn't his was reacted to as if you'd simply been brainwashed, and oh, one day you'd learn. Frustration!

I took his course over a year ago but while browsing this site found him and NEEDED to come comment. He is the nicest, most interesting, prof at Acadia. I was disappointed every day when class ended, and I am one of those "lazy non-academic" people.

A wounded, passionate, dark, brooding, tortured and broken soul. He is what gives the liberal arts education meaning.
