This class is extremely difficult and time consuming but the material is interesting. Be prepared to attend every class because he tests over material in the lectures and sometimes the book doesn't cover what he says. Overall, he is a nice and funny guy but his classes are nothing to scoff at.

He is the worst teacher at LSU. DONOT take this class. His tests are completely ridiculous and he asks the most ridiculous questions. He doesn't round grades and he is extremely rude and arrogant. He will literally tell you straight to your face that "you are too stupid to succeed."

Extremely time demanding class. I took great notes, but did not study correctly for the first 3 tests. Couldn't understand if it was content based or history based. I ended up getting Bs on the last 2 tests because I changed my study method so an A/B is not unachievable. Not the worst class despite what people say.

Lectures the whole class with a PowerPoint that consists only of pictures of the people lectured about. You need to go to class and type everything he says. Reading the book is very helpful. Exams are very difficult. They are scantron and fill-in-the-blank (3 points per blank).

He's a nice professor, it's just a boring and difficult class. I found it hard to sit though an hour and a half class listening to the material. His tests are ridiculously hard, some easy memorization, but you also have to memorize the absolute most irrelevant information ever. More like a philosophy class in my opinion.

Good teacher knows his stuff but tests are just irritatingly hard. Can't just study night before. Half of points are based on fill in the blank. Studying is hard b/c material can come from anywhere book or lecture and he doesn't always cover everything from the book but your responsible for it so it feels like double the material. Not an easy class

Dr Hawkins is a nice guy and he cracks a jokes to make lecture a little less boring, but his tests are ridiculous. The test average is around 75 every time, so the class is not "cake" like others have said. Tests involve memorizing a lot of materials, and it comes from both the text and lecture so go to class.

Everyone had me intimidated at first saying how "hard" this class is, but it just isn't. There is rote memorization of who wrote what and sometimes why that work is significant (i.e. the first of its type). I have used noteswap notes and the text and have a 98 going into the final. If you can make flashcards, this class should be cake.

Professor Hawkins is really a great professor. The course is very demanding. Make sure not to underestimate the amount of studying you need to do. Go to class. Take good notes and read the book. Hawkins is hilarious. His dry sense of humor had me cracking up. Interesting material if you get into it, too.

I love Dr. Hawkins - people who say he is a horrible professor just don't know how to study. Yes, his tests are extremely demanding (must known names, books, theories.. but no dates), but if you just go to class.. take good notes.. and read the textbook.. you will do just fine. I got a 99 on the last test. Hard class, but great professor!

Comment:
Dr. Hawkins History of Psych class is a waste of time. Although his lectures are sometimes amusing, his tests are terrible and they lack content validity. Make sure you remember the irrelevant details, and study the specific people (IE Immanuel Kant) that he's obsessed with. If you go to his office hours expect him to be rude and demeaning.
