Comment:
CS1666 is a ton of fun for anyone interested in making videogames. You'll need to do some research outside of lectures to get a really well-rounded experience, but I found the subject matter to be engaging to the point it no longer felt like homework.

Suuuuper boring professor, but not necessarily bad. His lecture comes directly from the slides, which come directly from the book. He gave practice tests that were near-identical to the actual exam - just some number-changing, which makes the class fairly easy. Not particularly useful over the book. Fairly mediocre overall. But not terrible.

Comment:
Daley is very reasonable. Lectures are more clear than the way the textbook conveys information, and slides are available online. (This is good; recitation was absolutely worthless.) Weekly homeworks are a little difficult, but not worth much in your grade. His exams are much easier than those, and he provides practice exams too.

Very boring. His slides are directly from the book, and there are graded homeworks each week. Gives out past tests for practice so they aren't too terrible

If you like having powerpoint slides read at you, this is your guy. Pointless lectures. Difficult tests you have to cram for. The material is so boring that it hurts. I stopped going to lecture after the first week and tried reading the book to learn since his teaching is so useless. Lo and behold, he barely uses the $179.00 textbook for the class.

If you like to cram for a test a few days before a test, take Daley. He posts 3 practice exams for each course exam (30% each) that are virtually identical to the real deal. Your TA can make or break the deal (but HW is only 10% of your grade). Overall taking Daley was an incredibly wise decision to get 1502 done and out of the way. Will curve too.

Comment:
Daley made 1590 fun, he's really laid back. I'd recommend the class for the cs writing req over 1590 even though the rating i'm giving is kind of low. Barely any homework, your papers are graded by the TA so hope you get a good TA.

Professor Daley admits the subject is dry, but wants students to succeed. By far my hardest class though. Its just impossible to understand and the TA doesn't speak any english. Averaged low C on tests. He definitely curves at the end. I'd recommend office hour visits often! Homework is graded and TA loves taking off points.

This was the hardest class I took at Pitt CS, and I tried to take hard ones. The material's just tough and Daley has high expectations. His lectures are crucial as the book is challenging. I really like his new slides, but wonder if I might have benefited from working out more problems on the whiteboard by hand. Study nearly every day.

Daley is a great professor. He really knows his theory, and you can tell he cares about getting it right and being precise, unlike a lot of other CS professors. He makes the first half of the class as interesting as it can get (not very). Is very willing to answer questions during class time, ask good ones and he'll give good answers.

The material is easy but he makes it sound alot harder than it is.Its too bad he takes attendance because this is a great class to skip.HW is realy hard, easily 6+ hours each.I stopped doing them because they are so long and worth so little.Tests are easy if you do the practice tests, but he takes off points for every detail, so its hard to get an A

He's a great guy and defintely knows his stuff. The course material is tough and he knows that. If you make a good attempt at learning the material, he doesn't let it go unnoticed. Best way to get through the class is to go to all lectures and memorize the text book. Seriously. OH and do the homework; it shows up in some form on exams.

Daley does a decent job of explaining the material, which in his defense is pretty difficult to teach. The class gets pretty hard at times, you'll need to spend a lot of time studying if you want an A.

Daley is a good teacher, but this class is hard and EXTREMELY boring at times. Fortunately he tells you the exactly what's on the tests ahead of time so you will never waste time studying things you won't be tested on, but often takes off a lot of points for small mistakes.

He definitely knows what he's talking about, but he really doesn't include the class in his lecture with questions or examples. He is evasive with students' problems, in person or e-mail ( go to the TA or doesn't respond). However, the tests are straightforward surprisingly. Just hope you don't get a non-native speaker for a TA.

TAKE DALEY. He knows the material well and injects enough humor to keep it flowing. Study for his tests -- he provides samples. USE THEM, they'll help immensely. Also requires that his TAs follow guidelines for returning homework, etc. which are quite helpful. Also the TA was pure hotness.

pretty difficult class. the third part was a little easier. he's definately a good teacher, but when people asked questions, sometimes it seemed like he didn't know the answer and would try to change the subject. DO THE PRACTICE TESTS!!!

Well, you can't hold against Daley for teaching very hard courses, he does it well - And he's funny, if you get his style of humour. He once said, in the middle of explaining Determinate Finite Automatons diagrams, "...what do we know about loops? (he smiles) They go around and around..."
