I witnessed this clown sign a waiver for a THEORY MAJOR who could not pass the TPE. A theory major should be able to ACE the TPE. I decided then I would not pursue an advanced degree at UNT. Not everyone deserves a degree from a tough school. Sovik cheapens the experience for people who do the work.

Honestly, I took this class for the easy A. Wish I hadn't. Professor is very rude, constantly getting into political rants. The required book for this course is written by the professor, which if I recall correctly has hyper-links to Wikipedia. SERIOUSLY? It's basically mandatory to attend his talent show which is poorly organized. Worst professor.

No textbook, no clear instructions. He teaches the subject according to his beliefs and how he feels it. Also, i don't know how but he manages to turn every discussion into politics; go figure! The only good thing was that the tests were online.

I found out too late that u can set the video to X2 speed, which makes him speak at a normal persons regular speed.

As a music major taking this class, I was disappointed. It was dated: there was a tin pan alley section, a blues section, and a country section. He did not really touch on rock & roll, and not a word was said about electronic music. The class basically stopped at 1965. His lectures were also unpleasant; very repetitive and rambling.

Prof. Sovik provides a well organized plan for any student to get an A at the on start of the course. In fact it is possible to make much higher than an A due to the amount of chances a student receives. His lectures are hilarious, very well informed, and recorded so that the students can refer back to them for any questions. He is always fair.

Sovik is a great teacher! This class is so much fun and very engaging! You'll learn a lot about the history and culture of the United States through the medium of popular music. If you want an A, you will have to participate, though, but it's not hard. If you show up, pay attention, and put in a little effort, you can easily get an A.

Yo I didn't even take his class and I hate this guy. If you have any friends taking this class don't go to the talent show because its trash. The first hour of the talent show is this guy making bad jokes and talking about himself. Like I feel bad for this professor that's how much secondhand embarrassment I got from watching the talent show. 0/10

Worse professor EVER. I don't see how he still has a job. He admits to having information he can use against the higher ups. I guess why he has a job. He's rude. Makes offensive comments. Not here for students. He's out to see you fail. Sad that whoever is over the hiring lets him continue to teach. He's not out to help students. Money wasted!

Worst professor I've ever had. Has an online course but demands you watch 40 minute videos of his lectures anyway and will add an attendance check at the very tail end of the video to trick you. Also has an overly lengthy syllabus. Seems very disorganized and too shady. DO NOT TAKE IF AT ALL POSSIBLE.

Easy class, but the man is awful. He requires you buy the textbook he wrote and drops you if you don't buy it through him, which should be a conflict of interest. You don't even need the book. I had a 79.6 and he didn't round me up to a B. Are you kidding me? He wants students to fail. He threatens you in the syllabus. Please avoid this man.

Expectations of the class are laid out very clearly in the syllabus. Read the syllabus, check your email, read the book, watch the videos. So simple! Loved this professor. Not for the narrow-minded. Also, "HELLOOOOO!"

Worst Professor ever. He threatens students in the syllabus, and he's very arrogant. He thinks his opinions are facts. He's also very rude. DO NOT TAKE THIS FOR A MAYMESTER. It's incredibly confusing and time-consuming. He doesn't revise the syllabus or online material for anything because the face-to-face class is different. It's very hard online.

I took this class online and you really HAVE to keep up with this class or you WILL fail! I was interested in the material but not at how he presented the material. He is very straight to the pointcomes off harsh. Participation is the most important thing you can do. I would not recommend this class is you are looking for an easy advanced elective

Dr. Sovik runs his class like a tyrant. He is a total narcissist who does not care about his students. He is the only professor I've encountered who sets up such stupid red tape and criteria to have his students dropped. Attendance policy is ridiculous, will count you absent even if you are there. He doesn't value his students, DO NOT TAKE COURSE!

The least helpful, caring, and informative teacher I have ever had the misfortune of knowing. His exams are based almost solely on his own ridiculous opinions. He is ultimately an embarrassment to the college of music.
