Asked him for help multiple times after receiving grades I didn't feel were fair and was told him helping me would be "unfair to other students". He is lazy and would give me 8/10's without explaining himself. Should have been a class I did not struggle with, but was my worst grade of the quarter.

This is the worst professor EVER in your whole college life. Sampson is arrogant and racist! Does not deserve a platform. DONT TAKE HIM. You can work as hard as you want but you aint getting no A. He is jealous of students and claims that he is better than them because hes been teaching for many years. very rude and horrible character.

I am writing this as a warning. Please, I beg you, for the sake of your mental health, run away from this professor. He has given me condescending feedback, he is insanely rude, so many of us dropped out of his class, because it was impossible to get anything higher than a C. If you want to ruin your self respect and your GPA, then take him.

If you want to take a class that doesn't have clear grading criteria and an extremely tough grading system, this class is for you. Professor Sampson is a smart person, but his expectations are simply too rigorous. I am not not writing this out of rage but more as a warning.

No. No no no. Grades you simply on a midterm and a lengthy research report. Provides no tangible material to go over, only your notes that you take from his lecturing. His lectures are only from him speaking, no visual aids.

I want to seriously caution anyone who is thinking about taking Sampson's class. He is smart but also super unforgiving. If you are the type of person who might miss class or procrastinate this isn't the teacher for you. Also he changes the syllabus a lot, and does not have a D2L page. You must be a really good note taker and type A personality.

Professor Sampson is old school, but he is a huge source of information. Although disagreeing with conservative arguments, gave one of the most thorough understandings of it, despite other reviewer, and no, doesn't pick favorites on class or race. Really amazing and enlightening, takes care of his students. Wouldn't take if not public policy major.

Horrible professor. Preaches reverse racism, refuses to hear opinions outside of his own with utter arrogance, and picks favorites choosing to explicitly seek out African Americans, rich or not, and identify them with struggles they don't have. Utterly coddling them. If you're white, he essentially marginalizes and degrades you and your values.

I LOVE Sampson's classes! He IS very tough & expects you, as a somewhat intellectual college student, to actually try. There really isn't much reading, but you should do it. He might be tough but he has experience in the field. As long as you TRY & ask questions, he'll grade you fairly. & don't argue with him! You'll always lose! But he's great!

Professor Sampson does talk a lot about Black and Latino issues. I feel it is his field and I feel it is appropriate. He get off subject often, but the things that he digress about are important social issues. If you do not like to be confronted with racial issues you should not take his class, then again you should not be in public policy either.

If you plan to take Dr. Sampson's class, forget everything you know, because it simply does not matter to him. The class discussions were very narrow-minded. I highly suggest you meet the guy before taking his class so you can determine if you want to put up with his teaching style.

Extremely knowledgeable professor, wrote several books and has Ph.D and formerly taught at Northwestern University. He is very strict when it comes to academics and teaches his Underclassmen classes like a Graduate School level classes. Extremely funny and witty though. Has very liberal bias, a problem for some. Likes hard workers and note takers.

Don't take this class if u don't like 2 be a teacher's pet. He spents whole class talking about his past experiences of Northwestern Univeristy, PhD experience, and very little about the topic. Pay attention when he talk about the topic (it's hard 2 follow because he goes off topic alot)Critical thinking & developing theories r 2 different concept

Very smart but arrogant. Says that people aren't as smart as think they are. Picks favorites. He's has a PhD and expects every student to think that way. Being critical and developing personal theories are two seperate concepts Dr. Sampson!Goes off topic a lot, spents whole class talking about his PhD experience, Northwestern experience, and a lit

I took Professor Sampson as a Freshman and he specifically told me to drop the class. I'm stubborn so I stuck with it and really learned a lot. No lie he's a tough grader and teacher. But if you really want to get your moneys worth, take him! :)

The greatest professor I have ever had! You just have to be serious about what you are learning or he'll call you out on it. I recommend ALL of his classes as I have taken multiple of them. He can come off as arrogant but he definitely earned the right. Honestly, if you want to get your money's worth for your tuition take his classes.

I feel Professor Sampson is a GREAT professor. Sure he expects a lot from the students, but it seems he really cares about those students who truly and want to LEARN. He doesn't give a lot of feedback because he expects you to figure it out. But he is an interesting and smart professor.
