Comment:
Young is a super nice professor. The chronology of the course is very confusing but at the end everything makes sense. He also pays attention to who goes to class. So a word of advice,GO TO CLASS. All questions in the paper and final exam were concepts from the readings that he discussed a lot in class that were not at all explicit in the material.

If you need clear directions in classes, he is not the prof for you, but if you can just go with the flow he's admirable. It kind of feels like the entire semester is just an introduction to the last week of classes, where everything suddenly makes sense and you understand why we had to discuss seemingly random things at length. Would take again.

Love Professor Young!! Yes, lectures are long and sometimes dry but he is so sweet and funny. The material is extremely interesting, although confusing at times. Logistics can be confusing, the syllabus/due dates are constantly changing but its not THAT big of a deal. If you listen/do the readings you will learn A LOT and get a good grade.

Young is a very old professor: he is super knowledgable in his field and draws parallels unseen in any other ANTH class at McGill. The content is very interesting. However, he is SOO confusing: first he changed the syllabus 5 times (we never knew what to read) + he changed the due date of final 6 times (once the night before). Easy grader. Take it!

Very knowledgeable. Lectures can be a bit boring, and there is A LOT of material to cover. The take home midterm is long but his grading is fair. He is really passionate about what he studies and it is clear. He really just wants you to learn and that is a refreshing change at McGill.

I love Professor Young. He is hilarious, intelligent, considerate. He is the reason I love McGill. It may take a while to get on his wave length, but once you're there, you'll never want to leave. I only wish he still did thesis advising!

Prof. Young is a compelling, engaging professor that makes anthropology interesting. I would take any other course offered by him. It was my first anthro. course and it was fantastic! I'm going into medicine and found this highly interesting. Don't let it fool you though, the material is tough-you have to analyze and know the articles very well.

He's an excellent teacher who really knows his stuff. He has done very interesting research in the field, and would be a huge asset to anyone looking to do masters work. This being said, he has very large classes and is not available unless you've already waded through the sea of TAs.

He's definitely an experienced lecturer; knowledgeable, organized and clear. His evaluations are also pretty fair. However, as sweet as he is, and as convenient the lecture recordings are, and as interesting the topic matter was/is to me, he usually put me to sleep. I think it's his voice...

Amazing prof. Funny, caring, and great lecturer. It's true that he fell behind in the fall '05 semester but it is only because he takes his time to explain his material without rushing unlike many other profs. His exam expectations are unclear but try to keep critical thinking in mind, and you'll do well. It was an honour to have Dr. Young as prof.

He's not a very good lecturer and all his "um"s get VERY annoying. He seemed to be more confused and less organized as the term went along. The material is easy, but the questions on exams are so vague that you don't know what you should write in so little time. Even if I got an A (they curved the grades), I wouldn't recommend him as a teacher.

Horrible class. Extremely HARD, WEIRD and CONFUSING. Painful exams: they want more and more: which makes you fail. Unfair grades. Honestly, careful with this course, it can discourage you. The prof is nice... but being nice wont be of any help to you. Extremely disapointed to have made the choice of taking this course. I regret it.

Ya, he does tend to ramble and say "um" a lot, but his jovial personality & very open attitude towards students more than compensates. Lots of readings, lots of details to memorise, but exams are fair, albeit lengthy. Your beliefs/prejudices will be challenged & your sense of critical thinking fine tuned. I learned a lot.

He is an excellent teacher. Explains fully and makes the class interesting. He does stammer a lot and ramble on, but honestly, it's kinda funny. Also, he has Woody Allen-like manerisms. Really interesting class, and he knows the material oh-so well. Totally worth the work you have to put in!
