Careful reading is a MUST for the reading quizzes. Tests are all open ended essays. Both of those assignments feel a little crunched for time, so prepare well beforehand. Professor Ripoll is passionate about what she teaches and lectured are interesting. Great class!

Super caring prof and most interesting econ class I've taken, reminded me why I wanted to major in it. She uses relevant real world examples and makes you feel comfortable to participate. You learn a lot from only doing a reasonable amount of work, decent amount of reading though. Take her for any class any time you can!

Marla is amazing. Her lectures are fantastic. I never bought or even looked at the textbook and I got an A+ because of her high quality teaching. She strives for fairness and has a kind heart. I cannot reccomend her enough. Incredibly well prepared for online learning, which shows her dedication to her students.

Dr. Ripoll is now the reason I understand macro econ. During the pandemic, she was flexible and understanding, but she still expected a lot from us. Cannot recommend her enough!

Tough class, but Marla does a great job of thoroughly explaining everything. She writes notes along with you, and makes difficult concepts easier to understand. Exams are very straightforward and similar to homework. One of my favorite econ professors so far.

Prof. Ripoll is a great prof for Intermediate Macro. Every class is a lecture, but she includes an interactive portion as well. The tests are very similar to the homework. There are only 4 homeworks throughout the semester.

It's Covid time rn so everything is online. She writes a lot of notes but they are clear and she goes slow enough where you can actually grasp the material. A lot easier than Micro, that's all I'm saying.

Marla's Intermediate Macro course is pretty dense and you do need to stay on top of studying, but her exams are fairly straightforward and are just rehashes of the problem sets (start those early btw). Marla herself is also a decent lecturer and is a very nice person overall.

The class is one of the hardest Econ classes at Pitt but Marla does a great job making the material clear. She clearly knows her stuff and can answer pretty much any question students throw at her. Her lectures are very clear and as long as you go to class and take good notes the tests tend to be pretty straightforward

Professor Ripoll is a great teacher who is really good at explaining the material and following it with examples so we can understand how to use it. The class in itself was very hard, extremely tough material but Ripoll definitely made it doable.

This was one of the hardest classes I've taken at Pitt. The exams in this class were brutal. The questions did not fairly represent the examples we did in class. I failed the first exam (class average was a 50). I'm currently retaking this class with a different professor and got a 87 on the first exam.

Dr. Ripoll is an amazing professor. She goes out of her way to make her course engaging and ties in real world articles, etc. to make it interesting. Your grade is based off exams, homework, and reading quizzes. If you pay attention in class and work hard on the homework, the exams are manageable. I only used the textbook to supplement lectures.

Marla is a wonderful human being and a great, engaging and hilarious lecturer. Intermediate macro has become an increasingly difficult class as the exams require you think well above and beyond the notes. It wouldve been nice if she warned us, however she curved her tests a ton and didnt weigh them too heavily. Awesome in office hours as well.

Marla's Intermediate Macro class is undoubtedly one of the toughest I've taken at Pitt. Yes, the intro classes are a joke, but this was far from. Expectations might have been part of the problem, but she did a good overall job of teaching the text. However, the tests would have around 20 points worth of questions that weren't taught

My favorite professor in the Economics Dept, and arguably at Pitt. She is extremely knowledgeable on the subject of Latin American Economic development, theory, history and topics. Classes are discussion-based and she integrates current events into every lecture. I had no interest in L.A. politics prior to taking her course, now I find it facsinati

Class is deceptively difficult. The quizzes are true/false and aren't very helpful to improving knowledge. The tests are all essay type questions taken from book, notes, readings, and movies in class. Tough to remember it all.
