Comment:
Richard is the kind of teacher that will insist that you do things his way, and if you don't, he'll insult and berate you. Unlike teachers like David Mold who allows students to be themselves, he'll have you dancing to his tune, but he never goes into the craft.

He is a good teacher for the first couple weeks in regard to emotional recall exercises and in motivating students with his knowledge. However, that is all he is good at. His class is more of a venue for you to perform, rather than expand and learn. Was one of his favorites in his class but he was my least favorite teacher at Marymount Manhattan

Erratic, crude, and aggravating. He may be great for some places, but not Marymount. He decides if he'll like you or not the very first day of class. If he doesn't, any confidence you thought you had will be blown half to hell. He works for some people, for others his way of teaching is damaging and counterproductive.

Richard can definitely be a lot to handle for some folks and he does have his favorites in class. I found him to be the best acting teacher I have ever had. If you go to his class, expect to work. He is brutally honest and that is something we needed as acting students. I took his classes for Acting II and III.

No matter how effective his method might be, he's still a huge jerk. It's all about mind games for this guy. If you like abuse, he's got it for you in spades. He's a PhD jerk. He knows what he's doing and he's no dummy. It's frustrating because you know it's all intentional.

He's a great teacher, you can learn a lot about film that you never thought of before. He likes students who are interactive dont be afraid to talk and answer questions he likes to express his thoughts and hear yours. We need more teachers who care like he does. He really cares for his students. He loves Gin too !

Inspiring, Hardass (in a productive way), Gritty, Honest. Niles can come off as condescending, but if you can understand his teaching method (which is to galvanize his students, not berate them) then you will appreciate what he has to say. Ask him to tell you his model airplain/theater analogy. Nothing has ever made so much sence to me. (Oh yeah, and he was part of the first Tisch MFA Acting graduating class...hardcore....)

Niles is by far the worst teacher I have ever had. He comes to class **** and berates his students. If you want to learn to act, and not to be treated worse than the lint stuck in his glass of Tangeray, you would be well advised to STAY AWAY from Niles!

What a waste of money! The professor seems great but he didn't teach us a thing! The whole grade is based on one research paper that he didn't take the time to really explain the subject matter to us. Very frustrating.

Controversial, but for me, effective method. Can be an erratic force in the class dynamic.Inspires you to get real with yourself, doesn't hold back. Also can be very supportive. A personal challenge either way. Funny AND scary.
