Do not be scared of her, she is actually very nice. I managed to bump up my grade by two letters from midterms. She is VERY clear with what she wants. Do not use assumptions or bs her, shell figure it out. She is just trying to help you so you actually know what youre doing when you have a big fancy job.

Prof Mallet definitely has a reputation. My advice: come prepared and don't take anything personally. What you learn in this class is fairly easy to understand but very useful.

The worst. She is rude, her behaviour is unacceptable. Every year, the course evaluation of her classes get the lowest rate, and again here she is: next year teaching 5 courses!! Why someone who doesn't enjoy teaching at all has this position at the uOttawa? Why is she teaching 5 courses at the uOttawa while others have only one or two courses?

Just... mean. She seems to see herself as a rite of passage for law school, but just makes students scared. Not conducive to actually learning anything

She's just... mean. The subject is vital and she does a fine job teaching it. Grading is tough but the curve ensures everyone gets by. So why does Prof Mallet teach like she hates students, hates teaching, and hates the legal profession? One of the great uOttawa law mysteries.

This course is so overrated. If you know how to google, use a library database, and navigate a website, it won't be very eye-opening. Unlike some students, I never myself flipping through my old notes when I'm doing legal research. Follow the assignment instructions closely, quadruple-check your citations, and hope for the best. Rite of passage.

Honest review: this class is one of the most important skills for the practice of law. Unfortunately, it is taught by one of the worst professors to have graced the faculty. There is an air of entitlement that surrounds her. If you succeed with a snobby, monotonous, teaching style, this is the class for you. She's unavoidable so good luck.

Every lecture is given in a frail monotone, like she's disinterested but also about to cry. She's rude and unforgiving. I think she sees herself like the professor in Whiplash, putting high amounts of pressure on her students to get results. It would be nice then if the person applying this pressure wasn't so prone to mistakes

This is by far one of the most important classes you will take in law school. The skills you should be learning in this class are essential to employers . Unfortunately, you won't learn much from this class and she will constantly blame students and tell them they should have learnt everything on their own.

Professor Mallet's Principles of Legal Research class is a class that you will consistently rely and reflect on throughout your time in law school and your career. I already cannot count how many times I've silently thanked her for the skills she develops and fosters within that class. Hands down one of the most passionate teachers in the faculty

Shes really rude. She thinks herself very much above her students and treats them poorly. Not an approachable person/teacher whatsoever. I really dont have much positive to say about this prof.

How to do well in Mallet's class. For legal research: She wants you to write a concise paper with lots of reference to the cases. Explain why, relates case law. For Con Law: The exam is going to be one analysis, and the other two essays. Could be something she spoke about in class. Ours was remedies, and about 2A differences. one native isssue.

Insults you for making a mistake. Insults you when you are unsure of an answer. Makes it clear that she does not want to help students during her office hours. Insults you both in lecture and in her office hours. Poor at explaining her material. Try to study in groups, her lecture slides are important but her explanations are weak.

I'm a "mature student", I have endured a variety of criticism in my life but this professor, while very knowledgeable; is a TERRIBLE instructor. Yes, she is witty sometimes, and I have nothing against a strict professor. But this professor simply has no ability to teach whatsoever. You have to take legal research with her; avoid otherwise.

Unfit to teach; interrupts and belittles students after baiting them to participate. Demands respect from students but shows zero respect in return. Constantly goes on political rants and is not tolerant of dissenting views. Exams were glorified academic hazing.

Comment:
Professor Mallet is incredibly knowledgable in legal research, but creates an environment that is NOT conducive to learning it. Students are scared to ask for clarification or to see her in her office because of her ability to belittle students. It is such a shame that she is good at what she does but is not fit to teach it.
