Comment:
She's a good person outside of class, but in class makes you feel like (even if you worked your ass off) nothing you do will ever be enough. Be warned that she does not give As to anyone. She acts like the readings are SUPER interesting but they make you want to claw your eyes out. I managed to get an AB but had to work very very hard for it.

It wasn't hard for me to get a good grade in the class. What I had to give up was speaking my own opinion and agreeing with things that I personally did not believe in. Her writing assignments forced you to agree with the material you were writing about even if it was a topic you didn't agree with. It had its fun moments, but only a few.

Tough but helpful. Honestly it's sort of surprising she's not rated higher on quality. She's excellent, you just have to fully commit to every class activity and assignment. Also, prepare to discover who you really are and come from ;/

This class was extremely interesting, and she helped a lot with it being this way. She is not easy at all, but the amount of work you put into her classes are rewarding. Shes a hardworking professor, so take the time for her classes, and she will do the same to help you.

Dr. Gilbert is a very difficult professor, but she is not unfair. She is somewhat difficult to please, but at least she tells you what she wants and is available to help. All in all, I'd recommend her if you want a challenge. If you're looking for an easy A, this isn't it. I worked myself to death and only could achieve an A-.

The lady was horrible. She was like the COM dictator. At first made you feel like she would give you room to improve and then just lets you have it on your speechs. Oh and your partner papers pretty much dumbest things ever.

i signed up for international comm and got an in-depth history of the holocaust. shes definitely obsessed with her heritage, and her bias seems to interfere with the material a little too much. she does know her stuff, but i got really tired of hearing about how basically what I was born as (white, german-american, christian) make me opressive. :(

This class changed my life. Neat service learning component- time consuming but one of the best educational experiences I've had. Not easy: but the work is quality and clearly tied to course goals. Gilbert doesn't "push" her ideas: she just has the guts to voice opinions that challenge thinking.

If your not a woman femanist who is Jewish, don't take this class. In the words of Dr. Gilbert, "Coming from a Jewish mother..." all men suck.

She is enthusiastic and intelligent teacher. One of my inspirations. She expects a lot, but you will also get a lot out of her classes. My only criticism is that she has poor time management at times and relys a bit heavily on group work.

Group therapy as we liked to call it. Interesting class, a lot of work though. Lots of paper writing. She has very high expectations and will let you know that. She loves doing service learning courses, which are fun but time comsuming.

She's intelligent and entertaining, and you'll learn a lot. However, her expectations were completely unreasonable. And beware; she plays favorites big time. This class made me want to shoot myself.

I disagree with a previous comment. While Gilbert did clearly state her personal views, her lectures were in no way biased. She was an excellent teacher and the class was entertaining and informative---definitely worthwhile.
