His lectures were always interesting b/c he went through history like a story, but I recommend taking as detailed notes as possible since it will help you on tests. Your grade really depends on what TA you get b/c they grade everything. 2 midterms that are short answer, 1 final that is a 1 page essay for each of the questions, 1 term paper, no hw.

Great Professor! Tells lectures in a way that makes the topics less boring than you would think. He provides lecture videos every Tues/Thursday and I'd recommend watching them the day they're released, because they can take from 1-4 hrs to finish writing notes. Did not purchase the book, and did not need to use it. Tests are 80% based on lectures.

Long lectures and long readings full of random asides. Broad concepts do not matter, tests amount to remembering random Latin term referenced once in HIS BOOK or the name of some random person that is tangentially connected to a primary historical figure. More difficult and required more rote memorization than any upper-div.

Chrissanthos is a good professor. Its the ta who will be determining your grade for this class as they grade everything. If you have d'amato i suggest switching sections. he is an unforgiving grader and expects us be at his graduate level when we are merely taking an intro class.

Dr. Chrissanthos is one of the rare professors that not only is chill, he gives great historic knowledge. The class does take some effort to get an A, but by no means unattainable. His lecture are in storytelling style with no powerpoints, so it may not be for everyone. However, for any students who love listening to stories will like his class.

your grade relies on two midterms, one essay and the final. there will be a lot of reading for this class and you should start taking notes on the readings from the beginning because they will come in handy for the final. got a C on the first midterm so take it seriously. despite this C i still got an A+ so just take it seriously is all i can say

This class has so much work and havent seem this amount in my two years at UCR. His lectures are asynchronous, he does not have any slides to guide you. The class consists of two midterms, term paper, final and other various HW assignments the TA assigns. The midterms are open note and book. It consists of both fill in the blank and short essays.

I was not expecting this class to be so difficult and required so much reading. The tests are not that bad, but the final is a lot of work. Tests are all short answer questions, the final is five questions and a page essay for each.

Hist 010 requires a ton more memorizing compared to any other science and math class I have taken. As a lower division course, this class requires a ton of reading per week.

Imagine taking an undergrad history class that requires a lot more effort than memorizing everything in Microbiology. I was expecting this to be like any other history class I've taken, but I'm expected to memorize and put so much more effort into this class through the texts and lectures to achieve an A. I'd understand if this was grad level.

you can tell he is very knowledgeable but his lectures are just him talking with no slides. as long you take good notes and do not fall behind on watching lectures you should be good. also don't procrastinate your paper. overall really enjoyed the subject material

you can tell he is very knowledgeable but his lectures were just talking with no slides. try not to fall behind on his lectures and coordinate your reading to his study guide he puts out before the tests. if you take good notes and do not procrastinate your paper, an A is very attainable. overall really enjoyed the subject material

Grade in this class depends on your T.A as some require more work than others. Grade based off 2 midterms, a 5-7 page essay and a final made up of multiple mini essays. Just watch the lectures and take good notes

His class is the same structure as in-person. There are 2 midterms (fill in/short respon), 1 paper (5-7 page double spaced), and essay final. His lectures are very interesting, but long. He doesn't have any slides so you have to take all the notes (make sure to paraphrase). Grade is dependent on TA too. I have Daniel and he's a fairly easy grader.

DO NOT TAKE TO BE A BREADTH COURSE, maybe it was easier in person but online, total nightmare. 2 midterms, 1 final, 1 final essay, grades depend solely on what TA you get. Even if you copy and paste exact transcriptions from lecture does not guarantee you an A on the test. other than that, lectures are long but interesting, not much HW at all

Took this class Spring 2020. Class structure is simple: 3 tests (short response & fill in blank) , 5-7 page essay, and grade discussion. The lecture recordings were really easy to follow and enjoyable. I rated a 4 because basically all your assignments are really dependent upon your TA; they grade the majority of assignments. Reasonable class! :)

I am taking his class during quarantine, so my experience may be different. His lectures are amazing and are fun to listen to. I have never been interested in history but I learned a lot just by paying attention. His tests are a mix of FR and short answer, and they are very specific. He tends to repeat important things to place emphasis!

I kind of wasted my money on textbooks because I don't read them much, but there are a lot of readings that matter for the discussions. I actually enjoy his lectures and learn a lot, but he doesn't give any visual aids (or spelling clarification??). So far I have all A's except for the first exam (of 3, not mult choice), bc it was bs. 1 hard essay.

If you need a history breadth, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. ITS SO MUCH WORK A BREADTH. Don't get me wrong, I learned a lot but I and I my ass off. I got an 89% overall and 100% on final and he still didn't bump me to an A-! His midterms and finals are hard af, and a big part of your grade is from the discussion. If you get a bad TA you're fked.
