Really awful professor.I'm a senior, I've had lots of profs, I'm tell you he is the worst one. Take HIST with a different prof. She is so unclear. He does not lecture based on chapter readings, so you have no idea what the tests are on. He's all over the place. No power points. No hand outs. Tough grader. Not very helpful outside of class.

He is the stereotypical archeologist in how he presents himself. i had a hard time keeping up with his lectures during class. looking back on the notes i took, i still don't know what he was saying. all the answers come from the full chapter readings, and are all essays. the final i used more info i learned from discovery than from him/the book.

Pretty good prof. The tests are easy, as he gives you the potential questions in advance for each chapter. The lecture is often interesting and tangentially related to the topic, but don't take notes, as the tests are from the study questions.

The absolute most passionate professor at Calvin College. I love watching him lecture. When he get's talking about a topic he is excited about he can begin jumping around. LOVE LOVE LOVE!

Without a doubt the most incomprehensible lecturer i've ever had. Seems to know his stuff, but there's virtually zero clarity in lecture and its impossible to follow. Also, goes off on random tangents like crazy and makes it difficult to gauge whats important and whats not.

His lectures lack clarity and he goes off on long boring tangents. We spent way too much time on the Nabataeans while avoiding more important ancient civilizations. He also would go on long political lectures about American foreign policy when I signed up for the class to learn about Near East history. Avoid this Professor.

He is awesome. He gives you possible test questions and picks two or three of them for the tests which are all short answer and essay. So if you study the answers the questions you do really well!

He wasn't a very good professor. Initially, he seemed really easy but his tests were impossible to study for and to take. And he only grades you on a few things, so if you do poorly on one assignment, you pretty much can kiss your GPA goodbye.

Very nice man. He is friendly, cordial, cares about students, and has a great sense of humor. He also knows A LOT about history. Unfortunately, he does not do the best job of teaching. He shows lots of slide shows and talks a lot about his travels in the Middle East. His class is no cake walk, but you can do fine as long as you give a good effort.

I thought i failed this class, because i never understood what waas happening. But I did really well... i don't know where it came from. i hardly learned anything in this class, except maybe something about hiding the fact that you're sleeping while he shows ANOTHER set of slides. Wonderful, nice guy but not a good prof at all.

most confusing and worthless lecturer i've ever had. A very nice man who obviously loves his material but can't seem to get it across, and i got a great grade. if you show up and do the assigned work, you'll get an A, but you won't learn anything along the way

Easily the worst prof I have ever had, and I did very well in the class--he is disorganized, shows slides every day, and his lectures are worthless--i only went to class because he took and graded on attendance. Just do the reading and youll be fine, but if you hate boring lectures and arrogant profs than avoid this class.

Completely Worthless, What a joke! Would never have gone to class except that he took attendance and counted it towards your grade. BEWARE OF THE SLIDESHOWS. Complete waste of my tuition dollars.

Terrible prof. Obviously knows a lot, but awkward and confusing when in front of a class. Seems uncomfortable when teaching. Disorganized, often leaving class to "get something from the office," only to return empty handed 10 minutes later. Avoid this prof.

As a historian, he is very intelligent, knowlegeable, and passionate in his field. As an instructor, he is not that great. He goes off tangent, hard to take notes, confusing & boring lectures, but he is pretty easy-going. Take good notes though it doesn't seem important and don't miss his class!

Awesome professor, and awesome guy all around. He's funny, interesting to listen to, but does go off on tangets. However, his tangents are never really on the test and only serve as amusing little sidenotes. He's a very nice guy who really knows what he's talking about. Recommended.

I had him for 151 too and I enjoy his classes. It's true that he goes off on tangents and rambles on, but you make up all the essays for the tests or he gives them to you. With a little studying, you should know EXACTLY what he wants. He is very knowledgable and passionate about the field as well
