Comment:
He uses "checks" as a grading system & rates from 1-4 in his paper gradebook. He does not email nor does he post grades; if you ask him for your grade he argues-he doesn't "like to discuss that until the end of the semester." Most of the reading material is from his own work and how "well he writes."His grading is based off how much you write like him

1 paper done over the course slowly improving and changing it. He marks a lot on your work but if you fallow the guidelines you will do great. I hate writing and his class was probably the most help iv gotten in writing "so far"

Amazing professor. One of the best I have ever had over 10 year college career. He has passion and heart. If you give no effort, might as well shoot yourself in the foot. Wealth of knowledge, wealth of worth. When people rate their prof on the grade they receive, it's not a matter of Arrington but rather a worth of their ignorance.

He was a very nice professor, but he is extremely hard when it comes to grades. Also I felt that he did not follow his own guidelines for the papers. If you have him make sure to follow the guidelines because if you mess anything up your grade will suffer.

Boring class, interesting teacher. He's an excellent writer, and wants his students to be good too. His grading is thorough and he tells you exactly what you did right and what could be improved upon. He allows revisions, so it's easy to increase your grade. I didn't find him to be at all rude or dismissive like some other reviewers.

I took the class Fall 2011, and was very impressed. He is clear and concise. He spent time to get to know me, and has been a motivator for me to be a professor one day. He teaches one of the fairest comp classes I have taken. Anyone who says his grading scale is too tough is a lazy writer. You won't get away with writing a paper the night before.

Funny guy. He's not afraid to say exactly what he's thinking. I didn't find him offensive. He gives you four essays (If he likes the class he'll make it 3)and you basically write a first draft for all of them, he tells you what you need to fix, then at the end of the semester you fix 2 and turn them in. Pretty basic class. Easy class. Fun guy.

WORST PROFESSOR EVER. Very Much NEEDED-EMU NEEDS TO EVALUATE THEIR PROFESSORS! He says rude comments to his female students. Doesn't get back with you in emails. Isn't very clear on what he wants.

I have never had a worse English teacher in all my years in college. He spent days telling you what he wants in a paper and gives you a very long description of exactly what he wants. Then when you hand in your rough draft he simply marks you down for everything he doesn't like whether it fits the guidelines or not. Also roughdrafts = final drafts

He is very passionate about this subject. Had some interesting topics, but HORRIBLE at grading. He graded everything harshly, if you didnt say exactly what he would it was wrong. If you dont know how to read his mind, dont take this class. Its sad because I love to write. But he is a HORRIBLE grader!

He is very knowledgeable of his subject, but he grades very harshly. He treats the supposed "rough drafts" as final papers. Maybe this just isn't my form of writing, but it was hard to strive for such perfection when they weren't supposed to be our final drafts. Boo.

This guy is sweet. Apparently a lot of people on here don't think so, but he is. If you actually enjoy writing you will enjoy his class. I learned a lot of interesting things in his class and also shaped my writing style in his class. I'm glad I had him, and to the others that didn't like him: Sorry you don't enjoy writing. It's a wonderful thing.
