Comment:
She is a very dry and boring lecturer. Taught second half of Biol352. Posted slides have words missing so that you'll go to lecture and fill in the info. Nice lady, just not a very interesting lecturer, often had trouble with technology. Very repetitive, would not recommend her.

So I had an 89.4 in her class and she would not round up to an A after I went to her office hours. Her tests are tricky and even if you think you know the material, go over it again because even though the concepts are easy the tests are not. Would never take her again.

Her lectures are interesting and she's a great professor but her tests are 'tricky' the material may seem straight forward but you need to have mastered the concepts to get them right in the exam, don't underestimate this class!

Her style of teaching was a joke. It was so bad, I didn't even attend lecture for 3 weeks, attending only on days with quizzes. She's nice, but her lectures were really subpar. Or, maybe it was because Simpson and Jenkinson set the bar really high. I don't know, but you'll probably breeze through.

Comment:
Taught the evolution section. Material wasn't hard to grasp but that didn't make her exam any easier (might be the wording of the Qs). Quizzes were easy, though. Seemed a little condescending when students asked questions. The book wasn't really necessary for any of the sections but especially for hers--just print the slides & takes notes on that.

She is kind of hard to listen to at times, but her lectures are very complete with the information needed to for the test. She is responsible for writing the majority of the final which is multiple choice (it's completely different from the other tests). Many people skipped her lectures, but they should have gone b/c she emphasizes what to study.

Berta is a great teacher! She taught the evolution portion of our class and her quizzes/tests were a piece of cake. She also explains things really well. Text book not required for her. Would recommend her! :)

Dr. Berta is an awesome professor! Out of the professors that taught the class with her, she was my favorite. Her lectures are not always fun but do attend because she likes to emphasize on the important materials and it can also be fun too! I thought her tests and quizzes were very straightforward (and easy) compared to the other professors'. GL!

she made the vertebrate portion very boring. you learn more about the vertebrates in lab than you do in her lecture. the exam had questions asking about concepts she didnt teach in class.

She is such a boring teacher. Doesn't seem interested in what she is teaching and is not really helpful. She teaches the animal portion of this class, her exam/quiz questions are easy. You'll fall asleep in class if she is teaching.

She's is smart, but comes across being cruel and snobbish. She seems to hate teaching/working with people. She reads her lectures, and grades tests inconsistently. Watch out for the class presentations. She cares more about organization and references cited on the slides. I recommend the class, but not her as an instructor. Good Luck-its a battle.

Dr. Berta really knows her stuff, but she doesn't seem thrilled about teaching undergrads. She is blunt, rude and condescending. The material is interesting but she really just reads her powerpoint slides. The exams are extremely difficult- be sure to make a good taxonomic key if you take the class.

she is the most boring teacher i have ever met at the State. her lecture is extremely boring and it doesnt even look like she is having fun teaching,Plus her study guide is useless. she loves asking you questions on the tests which she never explained or emphasized in lecture.

She's tough! BIG on taxonomy, she loves letting you know where each animal came from and expects you to care too. She wrote the text book. The exhibit animals smell, I mean they did come from the ocean and are decaying as we speak.

Worst person ever to teach the animal section of this class. This section should be the best, but isn't if it is taught by her. Very boring, extremely scattered, the kind of teacher you can tell would rather be in the lab and resents having to teach.

one of the worst professors i've ever had! she's not only boring, but her teaching style sucks and the tests focus on the nitty-gritty details that she never emphasizes in her lectures. my advice... buy a tape recorder and take your notes off of that. otherwise you'll miss a lot of details.
