Professor Miller is amazing! People don't attend the lectures so they complain they fail. Don't be surprised when I say this is a lecture heavy class. BUT, if you watch the lectures and take decent notes, this class is a fairly easy A. No trick questions, all are from his lectures. Sometimes even word for word!!

I had Miller fall 2020, everything was online. The lectures were long and manageable. He also assigns documentaries and a LOT of news articles. I had to read 50+ news articles for the final and 80% of the questions on the final were about those. DONT DISREGARD THE ARTICLES

Loved the material of the class, video lectures can be around an hour long each, book chapters can be up to 100 pages each (bc there are a lot of pictures). Miller is a very kind man and is willing to explain anything your confused on. Be prepared to work for the grade, also the book can be found online for free. Recommend making a studygroup!

No extra credit. Your whole grade is composed of your test and quiz grades. The class average was basically a 77. Apparently the highest it's ever been too. If the highest class average ever received was a 77, you'd think he would care enough to do something about it. If you don't go to lectures or read the textbook, you won't pass the class.

He was a great lecturer and i always felt bad when less people came to class. He was nice to students and had a flare for presentation. The tests are graded on a curve so you just have to be sure to study.

Prof Miller makes you work for your grade. However, we get told exactly what is on the exams the first day of class. I bought the textbook, but you don't need it, everything is online. If you begin familiarizing yourself with the info on the syll the first day of class, you will do AMAZING! He wants nothing more than for everyone to pass with A's

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU ARE NOT GOOD AT MEMORIZATION !!!! there was so much to remember 200+ terms from the textbook, textbook chapters that are like no joke 40 pages long, plus lecture slides. Don't get me wrong he is a great person but his class was a bit unfair by just grading based on three tests without even having a study guide.

Steven Miller was a great professor, but at the end of the day his class was pretty unfair. Only graded on the 3 exams with no extra credit or other assignments whatsoever. The class is graded on a bell curve so the grades you actually get won't really be the ones you're grades have earned. So much material with little guidance of what to study.

DO NOT TAKE INTRO TO MEDIA WITH HIM!!! its unfortunate because the lectures are actually interesting and he is a good teacher, but the grading is ridiculous. three exams ONLY no extra credit, "curves" the tests bc they are impossible to pass due to having to memorize 50+ articles for each exam. good guy but if u want to do well do not take it w him

While lecture is by no means mandatory, what he goes over is a lot more useful than reading the textbook so I'd go to class. Great guy though, really gets into the lecture and keeps your attention!

If you're willing to go to every lecture and do all the required readings (30 articles per midterm and 60 for the final) then you'll easily pass with a high grade. If you feel like you need the lecture slides outside of class (although, I personally never did) then you can just easily take pictures of them in class. He's engaging and energetic.

There are over 30 articles expected to be memorized for each exam. The final exam has over 60 articles with no study guide. You must also read the textbook for each exam or you wont pass. Lectures are not posted online so attendance is a must. There's a curve, but that's because the avg grade for the 1st exam was a 55. Without it most would fail.

One of the few teachers that actually cares about his students. Isn't afraid to tell you stuff without the BS. He is a harder grader because a lot of the class is trial and error with projects but I promise you will at least learn something in this class. Its a lot of group work so you have to show up because if you don't he will knock your grade.

It's more about the "history" of media than media itself today. Doesn't upload any of his slides online, so attendance is a must. Studying for these exams were a pain, considering the fact he uploaded 60+ media articles to Sakai and expected us to memorize the little details (no joke) for the exams. Curve helped me, though.

In this class, you go far into depth about the history of media, rather than just media itself. My favorite times of this class would be his comedic entertainment throughout lectures and the documentaries. The 60 or more articles needed to be read for an exam of only 50 questions, I find ridiculous! I would appreciate if the slides were online.

If I could rate him a 0, I would. This class should be renamed "History of Media" since all you do is talk about the invention of the radio, etc. Ridiculous amount of (boring) info and Miller himself is irritating and off topic 90% of the time. My hardest, most dreaded class of the semester. 3 tests that ask SPECIFIC SENTENCES HE SAID IN CLASS!!

Steve Miller is wild and hilarious. You won't regret going to each of his classes, they are extremely entertaining and pretty interesting. The three tests are the whole class. 50, 50, and 100 multiple choice questions. The final screwed me a bit because it's on much more specific material than the first two and I barely studied.

If you have the chance to take this class with another professor, TAKE ANOTHER PROFESSOR. I regret taking this class. Miller made us read between 30 and 60 articles for all 3 exams, which were the only grades in the class. No home and no extra credit. There's a pretty good curve because everyone just fails, but even with the curve I got a C+.
