Gieber is a funny guy, but you have to have the right sense of humor for him to like you. He definitely knows his stuff, and his expectation for you to know it too is very high. The art part is fun but pe prepared to put in a ton of time outside of class. His tests are really not that bad if you study and listen to him. I enjoyed this class a lot!

Comment:
Gieber is a self-righteous, arrogant, and offensive professor. He makes inappropriate jokes about groups of people, including those of other nationalities/beliefs. He will also berate you if you do something wrong in the studio. The tests are incredibly difficult for a 100 level course. I do not recommend unless you think can stand his demeanor.

Good enough guy. Very funny but a bit smug. Can seem aloof. Definately knows his stuff. Won't let you skate through the class - you won't get a good grade w/o hard work. If you're not a chemist, brutally hard tests.

Very nice and helpful professor. If you read the required material the midterm and final are not that bad at all and he grades on artistic ability not so much on effort.

Professor Gieber is a hilarious guy. Ceramics I can be a very tough and frustrating class if you do not have artistic ability. The mid-term and final require a great deal of study and are in-depth exams. If you are looking for an easy fine art class I recommend searching elsewhere.

Geiber is a really funny and nice man but his class is WAY too tough. The tests are almost impossible, even when you study, and he grades really tough on your art (not on effort). The class is really fun but be ready to work your butt off for a decent grade.

If you aren't artistically inclined, this is not the class for you. This isn't a class where you get an "A for effort." If you suck at art, you won't do very well in the class. Expect to spend at least twice as much time out of class as you do in class. Tests are pretty difficult. Avoid it if you are just trying to get a fine arts credit.

Easily the best professor I've ever had. Hands down, the man. Willing to help and let you explore things not part of class if you make the effort. You have to put in the time, no question about it, class time is not enough.

The midterm and final are ridiculously hard and he expects you to know way too much about ceramics for a 101 course (you study the chemistry of the clay and glazes) Although he is a pretty chill guy, he has a huge ego. I worked my ass off for a B- in his class. If you're into ceramics take it, if not DON'T

I absolutely LOVE art/art history. But this guy is ruining it for me. He spends most of the class time going off into random stories that have no revelance to the class and he always talks about how he's German and how Germans are "so great". He also bashes on the French a lot too. He get's a lot of his historical facts wrong too.

I had him for Art Appreciation, and the class was a blast. I went into the class expecting to hate it, but had a great time. Geiber is a wonderful teacher, and he has a fantastic sense of humor. The tests were a bit rough, but if you read the text and study you'd be fine (I don't think he is teach anything besides Ceramics anymore though...)

Professor Gieber is awesome. He makes class interesting and he's funny (especially with his stories!). His tests aren't too hard- just make sure to go to class and know all the terms. I strongly recommend him as a teacher.

Gieber is an awesome teacher and makes class a lot of fun. The class itself is hard though if you have no experience and the tests are pretty rough. Not an easy A but the class ans prof are so good it makes it worth the work.
