I graduated from YCP in the Fall of 2006. For the past 8 years, I have worked as a 5th grade teacher. Looking back, only two professors had a significant impact on me. One of them was Dr. Fredericks. Solely because of him, I appreciate children's literature more than I ever have before. He changed my life. Let him change yours.

Dr. Fredericks is a great professor, and he teaches a great class. He has changed the way I will teach students for the better. His class isn't hard, you have 6 papers to write and you get 2 drafts for feedback on each paper. I plan to take another class with him again, and YCP is lucky to have him!

The syllabus can seem overwhelming at first but its really not half as difficult as the syllabus makes it seem. Everything in class is done in groups - even the quizzes, midterm and final! You are required to do at least 15 hours in the Martin Library as part of a project, so save your urban community service hours for when you take topics!

Dr. Fredricks thinks that he is God's gift to Education. He was rude and had a attitude that he was better than everyone else. Not a very likeable guy

i dont know why anyone would give mr. fredericks less than an A. He's extremely intelligent, extremely easy grader, and his classes are ones that you actually WANT to go to. He reads at the beginning of each class (which professor do u know does that?)and he is more helpful and interesting than 90 percent of the other professors here. take the clas

Best ed prof at YCP! He definitely makes you work, but the projects are actually helpful! Turn in drafts because you will get a better grade, and don't rush on the projects because he can tell! He really knows what he's talking about and he's very helpful and not boring at all. TAKE HIM!

After being in his class all semester, I think he is one of the best professors in the education department. Yes, his projects require time and effort, but everything we do can be used in our future classrooms. He is extremely helpful and always willing to answer questions. Definitely one of my favorite professors. Don't be afraid to ask for help!

It's a common misconception that you have to kiss Fredericks' ass... don't do it! I argued with him and did my own thing on the projects. Somehow he still really appeared to like me, not that that was pleasurable. Submit drafts until you understand what he wants, because the project guidelines are vague and his expectations are quite specific.

This class was the worst class I ever had. He is very unclear as to what he wants you to do for his projects. You can hand in as many as you want but in the end you will still get the same grade. If you don't kiss his butt he doesn't like you at all no matter how good your projects are he will still give you a bad grade.

I dread having to sit in this class for 65 minutes 2x a week, we do the same thing over and over and have to move in to stupid groups to do so.The only thing I've learned is he is always right, provide a paragraph in your lesson for each activity and make sure they are ALL hands on, minds on as if you have time & $ to do that in a real class...

Fredericks was one of my worst professors. I do not understand how this man can teach people how to be a teacher, let alone develop any kind of good rapport with children. If I was a child working with him, I would probably cry. He is the worst model for a teacher I have ever encountered. He is difficult, mean, and thinks he is god's gift to life.
