Comment:
Professor Johnson is a great physics teacher. He annihilates people who say dumb things, but his actions speak far louder than his words. He gives a lot of chances for extra credit. He grades kindly and quickly. He will take the time to answer questions, but not before insulting you. He's a gift to physics education and clearly loves the subject.

Comment:
Professor Johnson is a very intelligent man indeed. But he is mean and responds to students who ask questions condescendingly. He claims that physics is "common sense" and doesn't like to answer questions that he thinks is "common sense". He goes super fast with the material and his tests are crazy hard. You need to be a natural to pass this class.

Sorry dude, but you are the worst teacher I've had at CCSF. Zero help when you have a problem understanding. Talks down to his students. Awful in class examples and along with illegible handwriting. Talks a lot and is pretty bad at easing into any topic. But he is funny. Wish he would be evaluated because it's really difficult to be in his class.

This teacher is remarkable. Literally. He is one of the best teachers I've had at CCSF, ever. He relates a lot of the physics material to real life, trying to show how it's relevant to what one is going to do in whatever field they are studying for. He offers a "2nd chance exam" for the poorest scoring exam. Not to be confused with a make up test.

Wise and brilliant. Awesome professor. Socrates meets Yoda meets John Goodman. Read the section prior to the lecture, which will be based on the sample problems given with the syllabus. Not extremely rigorous, but the motivated student will find a challenge in full comprehension of material presented.

Do HW though its not mandatory. From hardest to eastest: make-up test>some problems in HW>some problems in 3 tests>Final. so, don't depend on make-up test too much. do best on regular tests. lots of extra credit quiz, get it! make sure note is correct, if not, ask!! test problems will change some from notes, but concept is same. relax...

Physics is tough, but he teaches in a straightforward manner and doesn't kid around, except when he's telling jokes. :-) He makes his own tests that are a mix of 10% HW, 70% lecture, and 20% curveball that would stump Newton and Einstein if they were taking the class in their youth. Homework isn't turned in, but you'd better do it anyway.

Likes 2 start of with irrelevant topics of the day. He's really easy in regards 2 giving people a chance 2 understand the material. Problem is if you be able 2 understand in the 1st place. It's like he expects 2 know the material. The textbook is hard 2 decipher if this is your first time.As an extremely small class, every1 had to get outside help.

Just facts about the class: 1)Tests are not easy. A lot of people say that they are completely based on the class notes, but they are not. 2)Extra credit quizzes - which is always good and can affect your grade a lot! 3) 3-mid terms(100 points), 1 final(50 points) and second chance exam. 4)He expect you to know a lot of staff.

I heard comments on this that he was easy but i found out that test, even though it was similar to the notes on the syallabus they were pretty hard. this class is not a walk in a park even if there is no hw assigned.

He is a very laid back guy.Rarely uses the textbook and exams are based on the review papers on his class. The questions are exactly the same and he only cares about the process, not numbers. Attend his class and you will pass!

He's a good guy - laid back and straightforward and a little funny, which is nice for night classes. You do have to do the homework to keep up, he won't explain the basics more than once. Tests are 3-4 questions but he gives lots of partial credit.

He has a teaching style that is his own. His tests are rediculously easy. If you just write the steps of how to get the right answer you will get 90%. He does not care about calculation or the right answer. Just remember to write down anything at all that is related to the problem and you will get an A

NOT A PROF FOR EVERYONE!This prof will challenge you in his tests. If you are not confident in your physics skills find someone else. However if you do take him then he will show you the proper method to solve any of the problems and all you have to do is remember it. Very knowledgeable guy but defiantly not an easy class.

Johnson is a very concise teacher who focuses on the gist (very important!) and sets reasonable expectations. Unlike others who might give you a laundry list study guide, he tells you the "types" of problems on exams, but the actual problems will be novel - this is very fair.

He doesnt teach you the important physics concepts; all he does is going over his problems for each chapter. And the test is completely different from the problems he goes over in class. He doesnt teach well at all, avoid taking him if possible.

He doesn't teach anything. His teaching style is basically going through problems and telling everyone how to get the answer. Never stops to see if everyone or anyone understands what he is talking about.

He expects you to know everything and isn't very helpful. Also never explains homework and rushes through the beginning as if it's stuff you should already know. (It's not!) Quizzes are hit or miss! If you're really smart, go for it. But if you're not as smart, then I'd reconsider before taking his class. If you take him, good luck. You'll need it.

Comment:
I can't believe that he's rated that high. The class is really boring and he expects us to understand everything. I regret taking him, he makes the material pretty hard to understand. Homework is not mandatory but the tests are pretty hard for elementary physics.
