Comment:
Most aggravating prof. Knows his stuff but is super disorganized. Needs TA to keep track of what he's said or not said. When asked questions he gets sidetracked and never fully addresses the question. He goes on tangents and political rants. Favors students by name. Can be outright ignorant at times. No lecture slides. Poor syllabus and criteria.

Hymie was great! He doesn't use powerpoints or anything he just talks which seems scary but it isn't bad! He wrote the textbook so there is tons of overlap between lectures and textbooks. He is really caring and so funny. I love going to his classes because he makes it fun for everyone. I would deff recommend taking a class with Hymie!

Nice guy if you enjoy wasting valuable lecture time listening to rants and bad jokes, this is the professor for you! He failed to outline clear guidelines or guidelines at all about the structure of lessons and important topics for exams. It is very difficult to weed out what is an irrelevant story and what is relevant information in his lectures.

If you want your blood pressure to go up, and have a reason to wake up every morning filled with rage and anger than please log into carleton central and sign up for neur3403, specifically by Hymie. No lecture slides. Poor class structure. You must buy HIS book since the midterm and exam is based on it. On top of all that, you cant hear him. ciao.

The first class was extremely daunting when you learn he doesn't have lecture slides, but don't let that discourage you! He's an amazing lecturer and all the content he discusses are in the text so if you miss something, you can find it. He also answers questions very well, and willingly. He's amazing and I'll miss taking his classes.

He takes very difficult and complex concepts and explains them in relatable ways. The way he taught the immune response was the first time I have ever felt I really understood it. He does not post slides and will focus on certain aspects of the textbook based on his interests at the time of teaching and his past areas of research. Go to class!

Hymie is my fav prof I've had so far at Carleton. He doesn't use slides/cuLearn so its really important to go to class - his lectures are interesting (and funny) and I always enjoyed being there. He is engaging with the class, its good to put up your hand and answer questions. Tests are fair, but I highly recommend using the textbook to study.

Beware do not expect any kind of notes or slides. His lectures are solely based on he's oral teaching. I strongly suggest to buy the textbook to help further your understanding of complex concepts. His midterm and exams were fair ( choose 10/15 Short answers) Overall, AWESOME CLASS! He's hilarious and always wiling to help when needed!

Amazing take his class! No slides BUT if you attend class (which you should because he's extremely knowledgeable/hilarious) you'll do well. Reiterates key info. Wants students to succeed, very friendly, midterm, exam,1 essay(Any topic you want). He made VERY clear expectations/how to do essay. I could hear in back of class, text optional (for A/A+)

Content is interesting, but the way he presents it is poor. Doesn't speak loud enough for students at the back of the room and the fact that there are no slides makes it hard to follow what he is lecturing on (he tends to go off topic). Grading is unclear (students will fulfil all requirements in the rubric for essays but will get a bad mark)

His classes are always entertaining and he focuses on some very interesting topics. If you can, compare notes with a friend to make sure you got everything because there are no slides. Read the textbook, even if topics are not mentioned in class they can show up on a test. He is very generous with grades and will bump you up at the end of the term

Made each lecture super interesting, and I learned so much that was applicable outside of the course. He is super lenient about deadlines and let people write the midterm/submit the essay at different times. Doesn't post lecture slides so you have to attend, but he makes class interesting and explains difficult content very well, would take again
